These joints or points of contact are comparatively far apart and in view thereof any playin these joints will. have but little effect on the amount the four le s or bolster members 1e and 18 can get out of square with respect to each other. This also reduces the rolling resistance of the truck as well as the wear of the wheel flanges. If desired, in order to simplify the foundry operation, the transverse bolster members 14 may be cast separately from their associated longitudinal bolster members 18 and then securely connected to form the two separate units, each unit consisting of onetransverse bolster member I l and a longitudinal bolster mem ber 18. In each case, however, a longitudinal bolster member 18 will have a sliding joint connection with the opposite transverse bolster member for giving the required amount of fiexure for load equalizing and at the same time minimize the extent to which the truckcan get out of square.
The side bearings may be carried by either the main bolster 19 or by the interlocking bolster members, but preferably the side bearings are located on the main bolster 19 outside the longitudinally extending bolster members 18.
It is my intention to cover all modifications of the invention falling within the spirit and scope of the following claims.
I claim:
1. In a bolster for six-wheel trucks,the combination of a. unitary transverse bolster member and longitudinal bolster member, and a second unitary transverse bolster member and longitudinal bolster member, said units being separate and interlocked for giving the required flexure for load equalizing and at the same time minimize the extent to which the truck can get out of square.
2. In a bolster for six-wheel trucks, the combination of a unitary transverse bolster member and longitudinal bolster member, and a second unitary transverse bolster member and longitudinal bolster member, said units being separate and interlocked for giving the required flexure for load equalizing and at the same time minimize the extent to which the truck can get out of square, and a main bolster member for transmitting loads to said bolster units.
3. In a bolster for six-wheel trucks, the combination of two integrally formed bolster units, each bolster unit includin a transverse bolster member and a longltudinal bolster member, said units being flexibly connected for load equalizing and at the same time connected in a manner minimizing the extent to which the truck can get out of square.
4. In a bolster for six-wheel trucks, the combination of two separate units, each unit including a transverse bolster member integrally formed with a longitudinal bolster member, each of said units having a jaw for releasably slidably fitting a portion of the other unit for giving the required flexure for load equalizing and at the same time minimizing the extent to which the truck can get out of square.
5. In a bolster for six-wheel trucks, the combination of two separate units, each unit including a transverse bolster member integrally formed with a longitudinal bolster member, each of said units having a aw for releasably slidably fitting a portion of the other unit for giving the required flexure for load equalizing and at the same time minimizing the extent to which the truck can get out of square, and a main bolster member connecting the longitudinal bolster members.
6. A bolster for six-wheel trucks comprising three units, two of said units each comprising a transverse bolster member integrally formed with a longitudinal bolster member, each longitudinal bolster member being flexibly connected to the opposite transverse bolster member to form a line of fiexure diagonally across the bolster for equalizing the distribution of the load and at the same time minimize the extent to which the truck can get out of square,.the third bolster unit connecting the longitudinal bolster members.
7. In a bolster for six-wheel trucks, the combination of a unitary bolster member having a. transversely extending portion and a longitudinally extending portion, a second unitary bolster member having a transversely extending bolster portion and a longitudinally extending bolster portion, said units being separate and interlocked for giving the re quired fiexure for load equalizing, said longitudinally extending bolster portions having seats, and a main bolster member carried by said longitudinally extending portions and having bearings outside of said seats.
