WITNESSES INVENTOB ATTUBNEYS.
UNITED STATES PATENT EEIoEo JOSEPH E. GARDNER, OF MOUNT JACKSON, VIRGINIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN MIDLINGS-PURIFlERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 150,3l, dated April Q8, 1874; application filed n March 23, 1874.
To all vwhom fit may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH E. GARDNER, of Mount Jackson, in the county of Shenandoah and State of Virginia, have invented a new and Improved Middlings-Purier5 and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description ofthe same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this speciiication, in which- Figure` l is a side elevation, Fig. 2, a longitudinal vertical section; Fig. 3, a transverse vertical section, Fig. 4, a horizontal section.
rlheinvention relates to methods andmeans of purifying middlin gs, as hereinafter fully described, and subsequently pointed out in the claim.
A represents the base of the middlings-puri- Iier, having the apertures a, which connect,
by double spouts B, with subjacent receptacles for the purified middlings, and with the superposed chambers C C, Fig. AL, for receiving suction-fans that discharge the impurities. I) is a chamber, in which revolve the conveyers, that are separated by a floor provided with slides d, and carry the classified middlings to the point of discharge into their respective receptacles. E is a bolt consisting of a longitudinal inclined reel that is covered by a cloth, F, which preferably becomes coarser as it approaches the lowest part of the incline, where the middlings are discharged from the inside of bolt upon the sloping` boards G G, leading to the conveyer-ehamber. 4 H is a suction-fan that discharges through the aperture h. I J
represent friction-disks, the latter of which revolves over the other, has a feed-opening in the center, and is inelosed by a centrally-apertured case, K, having spout k leading therefrom and discharging into the bolt.
The operation is as follows: rlhe iniddlings are fed to the rubbers I J, which iiatten them and detach flour and particles therefrom.
These all pass into the inclined revolving bolt,
whose upper and finer part allows the speclrs and dust to pass through and be carried by the blast of fan H through aperture 7L. The middlings are next passed from the bolt, classified, and carried by the conveyers to their respective chambers through double spouts B. During their passage through these spouts the remaining dust or line detached particles are arrested, withdrawn, and discharged by the fans in cases O C.
Having thus described all that is necessary to an understanding of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is-
In a middlingspurier, the combination of the rubbers I J, revolving bolt E F, suctionfan H, hopper D, spouts B, and suction-fans' O O, when constructed and arranged to operate substantially in the manner and for the purpose specified.
