G. WRIGHT GAME Fild Feb. 21, 1922 Patented July 22, 1924.
GEORGE WRIGHT, or Annone., comonline.y
' GAME.
Application led February 21, 1922. Serial No. 538,371.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, GEORGE WRIGHT, a citizen of the United States7 and a resident of Aurora7 in the county of Adams and State of Colorado, have invented a new and Improved Game, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. n
This invention relates tokk improvements in games, an object of the invention being to provide a game of skill which will prove interesting and amusing to old and young alike.
A further object is to provide a novel form of game board over which men or tokens are adapted to be manually slidden, the sliding movement of said tokens being controlled by the skill of the players.
A still further object is to provide a game which can be made in a variety of sizes in accordance with the use for which it is intended, and a game board which will be simple and practical in construction, neat and attractive in use, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure l is a topl plan view of my improved game board;
Figure 2 is a view in section therethrough on the line 2-2 of Figure l; and
Figure 3 is a fragmentary sectional View on the line 3-3 of Figure l.
Referring in detail to the drawings, I have used the reference numeral l to indicate the bottom of a shallow receptacle provided with delining side walls 2. As seen most clearly in Figure l this receptacle is preferably in the shape oi a Greek cross having relatively short arms, but the shape of the box or receptacle might be considerably varied without departing from the spirit of the invention. v
In the particular embodiment of the invention shown, the game apparatus is designed Jfor the use of four players and a board 3 of substantially the same shape as the box is superimposed upon the bottom of the box and forms the field or playing surface.
The board 3 is likewise provided with an upstanding defining side wall 4. The board and the wall 4t are preferably curved at the corners rather than angular like the box. At each corner of the inner wall 4 there is provided an opening 5 providing communication between the game board 3 and the relatively narrow court or compartment y6,
delined by the two walls 2 and 4.
A. pair of partitions 7 connectthe endsof the arms of the inner cross to the outer wall 2, said partitions defining oompartmentsS, in which the tokens or men 9 are adapted to be stored. The compartments 8 are preferably of a convenient size to accommodate twelve tokens each. Each set of tokens is of course dierently colored or marked and the tokens are in the form of flat disks adapted to be manually slidden over the faceof the gaine board 3.
At the exact center of the game board, I provide a spot l0, and in each arm of the cross directly in front of the compartments 8, the board is ruled to provide starting lines or foul lines l1, from behind which the tokens are initially shot or projected.
In playing the game, the rst player places his token on the foul line ll and shoots the same with the thumb and foreiinger endeavoring to cover the central spot 10 of the board with the token. The next player in turn shoots one of his tokens endeavoring to knock the other players token from the board through one of the openings 5 in the Wall 4:. Each player in turn shoots one token endeavoring to drive the other players token from the board and to cover the central spot with his own tokens. WhenV a player accidentally shoots his own token from the board, he is compelled to spot7 the same upon the board, or if he knocks both his own token and another players token simultaneously through one of the openings 5, he is compelled to spot both tokens. Of course the manner in which the points are scored forms no part of this invention, but I prefer to count ten, every time the spot is covered by a token, and one, every time an opponents token is driven out of the field and into the court. For the purpose of keeping score, a plurality of perforations l2 may be arranged adjacent each compartment and the score may be kept by successively moving pegs from one of these perforations or recesses to the next.
I have 'shown a board in the form of a cross upon which four people are adapted to play. It will be obvious that I need not limit myself tothe exact shape of the board., or to the number who are adapted to play a game. The board may either be held upon the knees of the players, or may be made in a large size to rest upon the table, in Which Case, cues instead of the lingers are used for sliding or projecting the tokens. y
The game which I. have described above, I refer to call Kort, but many other gaines ymight be played with the board and various methods of scoring might be resorted to.
Although I have illustrated one of the preferred embodiments of my invention, it will be apparent that various slight changes and alterations might be made in the general form and arrangement of the parts described' Without departing from the invention, and henee I do not Wish to limit Inyself to the precise details set forth, but shall consider myselfy at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall Within the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
I claim: e v
A game board including a playing field, spaced outer and Yinner Walls surrounding said field,V the inner .Wall having a plurality of corners each of which is provided with an opening, and transverse partitions exv tending between said outer and inner Walls and defining a plurality of compartments certain of Which are segregated from the playing field for receiving tokens not in play, the other compartments "each communicating with said playing field through one of said openings to receive a tokenV from said field which has been put in play.
GEORGE WRIGHT
