IMPROVEMENTQIN PLANT-SPRINKLERS.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOHN A. SooLLAY and GEORGE TAYLOR, both of the city of Brooklyn, and State of New York, have invented a new and novel Mechanical Oontrivance for Watering Plants and other similar purposes, of which the following is, in general terms, a specification Our invent-ion consists of a hollow vessel made of rubber or other elastic material, with one opening, into which is inserted a sliding 7 tube, which is connected to the aforesaid vessel or reservoir by means of a stuffing-box, or otherwise, so as to form an air-tight joint and allow the sliding tube to be set according to the length desired, the tube being pushed down to the bottom of the reservoir when an upward stream is desired, and drawnup to the top when a downward ora horizontal stream is desired. Upon the outer end of said tube is a contracted nozzle for the delivery of a straight single stream. A sprinkling-jet, with feed-valve to facilitate the inward flow of water, is fitted over the nozzle when used for sprinkling.
The said contrivance is-operated by first compressing the elastic reservoir so as to expel the air; by then immersing the nozzle and relaxing the compression the fluid will rapidly flow into the vacuum thus made, until the resling-jet, as described, and for the purposes set forth.
