Description

July 22 1924.
A. J. ANDERSON FOUNTAIN LATHER BRUSH Filed May 15 1 Patented July 22, 1924.
ARTHUR J. ANDERSON, O'F BINFORD, NORTH DAKOTA.
FOUNTAIN LATHER BRUSH.
Application filed May 15, 1923. Serial No. 639,132. I i I To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR J. ANDER- SON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Binford, in the county of Griggs and State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fountain Lather Brushes, of which the'following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to fountain lather brushes, and the object ofthe invention is the construction of a simple and efficient shaving brush, embodying means for sup=- plying a suitable solution to the bristles or hair of the brush, for shaving purposes.
With this and other objects in view, my invention comprises certain novel combinations, constructions and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a view, in side elevation, of a brush constructed in accordance with the present invention, while Figure 2 is a vertical, central, sectional view of the same.
Figure 3 is a sectional view, taken on line 33, Fig. 2.
Figure 4 is a view similar to Fig. 3, showing the valve ring in a cut off position.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary, sectional view of the brush, showing the parts in a cut off position.
Figure 6 is a sect-ion, taken on line 6-6, Fig. 2.
Figure 7 is a vertical, sectional view of the lower part of the casing and sleeve showing the bristles and head thereof removed.
Fig. 8 is a plan view of sleeve 9 with part broken away.
Referring to. the drawings by numerals, 1 designates the hollow casing provided with the chamber 2, in which is carried theshaving liquid solution. The cap 3 is threaded into the outer end of the casing 1, and threaded into cap 3 is the hollow plunger 4. Carried on the inner end of plunger 4 is a head 5. A suitable ball-valve device 6 is formed in the outer end of the plunger 4 and the cap 3, sothat when the plunger 4: is drawn outwardly, by unscrewing cap 3 from upon casing 1, the liquid will be drawn into the compartment 2 through the lower or inner end thereof; when the liquid is expelled by forcing plunger 4 and head 5 inward the valve will open to allow the air to escape out ofthe casing.
The bristles or hair 7 are fastened in head 8 and this head 8 is carried within the sleeve 9. Sleeve 9 is threaded upon the inner end of casing 1 and in the inner face of sleeve 9 are formed liquid channels 10. On the inner face of casing 1 are formed liquid channels 10*. Within the sleeve 9 is valve ring "11 'whiclilikewise is provided with liquid channels 1O (Figs. 3, t and 8) that are adapted to register with similar channels on the sleeve 9 and valve ring 11, for permittingthe liquid to pass from compartment 2 onto the bristles 7. To operate the valve ring 11, I form a slot 12 in sleeve 9, and in slot 12 I place a small bolt (or like device) 13, which is fastened at its inner end to the valve ring 11. The operator can move bolt 13 within slot 12 to cause the channels 1O on the ring to register with channels 10 and 10, when it is desired to have the shaving solution pass onto the bristles from compartment 2, and upon the operator wishing to stop the flow of liquid all he has to do is to shift (slightly rotate) the position of the ring 11 to cause its channels 10 to not register with. the other channels of the device, whereupon the flow of liquid out of the compartment 2 will be prevented or stopped.
It is to be noted that by forming the channels 10 in the sleeve 9 that the shaving solution will pass out of the casing onto the bristles at their outside or what might be termed on the outside of the brush where the liquid is most needed, which is very valuable in the shaving process.
While I have described the preferred embodiment of my invention, and have illustrated the same in the accompanying drawings, certain minor changes or alterations may appear to one skilled in the art to which this invention relates, during the extensive manufacture of the same and I, therefore, reserve the right to make such alterations or changes as shall fairly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. In a device of the class described, the combination with a casing, of a cap. cletachably mounted on said casing, a hollow plunger attached to said cap, a head on said having its Walls provided With liquid (than nels about the open end, a sleeve provided Withliquid channels and detachably secured to the open end of said casing, an adjustable valve device provided with liquid chan nels', all of said channels adapted to register when the valve device is in an open position, and a brush supported by said sleeve with the channels of the sleeve positioned about its periphery whereby liquid 7 passing through the channels of the= sleeve will be applied to the brush externally thereof.
3.- In a device of the class: described, the combination of a tubular casingpiovided on its innerface at one end With a plurality of liquid channels, a sleeve threaded upon the end of said casing provided With said channels, said sleeve provided With a plurality 0-f liquid channels adapted to register With the channels on said casing, a rotatable valve ring mounted Within said sleeve between the sleeve and an end of said casing, grip nieans attached tosaid valve ring and projecting through said sleeve, said valve ring provided on its inner face with liquid channels and adapted to register with the other channels for permitting passage of liquid from the casing, and a bristle carryinghead positioned in the sleeve and engaging said valve r'ing, substantially as shoivn and described. c i
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature.
