To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, ALBERT H. AGHER, a citizen of the United Stat-es, and a resident of Lake Forest, in the county of Lake and State of Illinois, have invented an Improved Adjustable Mold Form for Concrete Beams, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to mold forms for casting concrete floor beams.
The object of the invention is to provide a mold form for the purpose specified, which is simple in construction, which can be manufactured at small cost as compared with any mold forms for the purpose of which I have knowledge, and which is readily adjustable to provide for varying the size of the mold to adapt it for forming beamsof different slzes.
To effect the objects of the invention, my improved mold form comprises the various features and details of construction hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings in which my invention is fully illustrated,
Figure 1 is a transverse sectional view of a mold form embodying my invention and improvements, as erecting for casting the beam or girder of a concrete floor a section of which is shown in association therewith.
Figure 2 is a view substantially similar to Fig. 1, illustrating the adjustability of the mold.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. 1; and
Figures A and 5 are isometric of angle .plates forming part of my improved mold.
Referring now to the drawings, my improved mold form consists of a bottom board 1, side boards 2, 2 and angle plates 3, 3 and 4, 4'.
\Vhen the mold is erected for use, the flanges 5 of the angle plates 3, 3, rest upon and are secured to the bottom board 1, and the flanges 6 of the angle plates at, 1, rest upon and are secured to the deckings 7, on which the concrete floor proper is to be laid, the flanges 5 and 6 of the angle plates 3, 3 and 4:, at, respectively, being securedto the side boards 2, 2.
The angle plates 3, 3 and 1, 4 are preferably secured to the bottom plate 1, the side plates 2, 2 and the decking 7 by means of nails, said angle plates being provided with rows of nail holes to receive the nails.
With the described construction, it is obvious that the width of the mold form may be varied by securing the angle plates 3, 3 and 4, 4c to the bottom plate 1 and decking 7 with the flanges 5, 5 and 6, 6 thereof, respectively, separated a greater or less dis tance as may be desired. Also, to provide for varying the depth of the mold form, the flanges 5, 5 and 6, 6 of said angle plates are provided with correspondingly spaced longitudinal and transverse rows or series of nail holes, whereby series of holes in the flanges 5, 5 and 6, 6 of said angle plates may be brought into register with each other, thus permitting said flanges to be secured to the Sideboards of the mold either in spaced relation or in different overlapped positions.
In use, the bottom board 1 is supported in any suitable manner, as by ledgers 8 secured to the struts 9 which support the stringers 10 on which the decking 7. is laid, and to support the sides of the mold form from bulging outwardly under the weight of the concrete when a beam is cast, braces 11 are inserted between the side boards 2 and the struts 9.
I do not, however, desire to limit myself to the particular means for supporting said mold forms, as my invention contemplates any desired or approved means for this purose.
p The bottom board 1 and side boards 2, 2 not only form supports for the angle plates 3, 3 and l, 4, but they also very greatly reinforce and strengthen the entire mold structure.
To illustrate the adj ustability of the mold, I have in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings, respectively, shown the angle plates 3, 3 and 4t, 4 secured to the bottom board 1 and side boards 2, 2 in different relations to form.
mold forms of different sizes, the flanges 5, 5 and 6, 6 being overlapped in Fig. 2 and as not overlapped in Fig. 1.
Also, while I have herein shown and described the plates 3, 3 and 1, 4 as angle plates, my invention contemplates equally the use of other forms of plates, if desired.
I claim 1. A mold form for casting concrete floor beams comprising bottom and side boards, and two sets of angle bars, flanges of all of which are adapted to be secured to the side boards of the mold form and to define the sides thereof, the other flanges of said sets of angle bars, respectively, being adapted to be secured to the bottom board of the mold form and to extend over and be secured to I the decking on which the fioor'is to be laid.
2. A mold form for casting concrete floor beams as specified in claim 1, in which the flanges of the angle plates adapted to he secured to the side hoards of the mold are provided with correspondingly spaced longitudinal and transverse series of nail holes,
