specifically adapted for application to connecting or pitmanrods oif-all types of machines, with which lam'now familiar, itbemg of course understoodthat I do notlimit myself to the applicationof mydevice to pitman or connecting rods, as-in thefuture practice, the device will operate equally as well as in conjunction with the movable ele ments of all machinery, the nature of the same being such as to automatically feed the oil to the parts when the machines are operating, but which will absolutely cut oil the flow of oil when the machines are stopped {for thereby overcominga ---grea,t wastage of fuel; 7 Y

being noted that thiselement is maintained in adjusted positions upon the neck, through the medium of-bindingscrews 17; The com municating-ends of the said passages 14 provide avalve seat for the headed end of the valve rod 18,- and is" freely movable within slotted at 2 1 for engaging 'over a relatively elongated set screw 25, that is carried by the weighted end of the arm 22, the head of the said screw adapted for contacting the arm 23, for limiting the downward swinging movement of the arm 20, upon its pivot 21.
As a means for raising the arm 20 upon its pivot for consequently forcing the valve rod 18 downwardly, for preventing the passage of the lubricant from the cup to the fitting 7 there is connected to this arm at a point forwardly of its pivot one end of a hair spring 26, this spring being coiled around a cross shaft 27 between the upper ends of the arms 16 of the neck 13, and secured thereto. The opposite end; of this shaft projects outwardly of the arms 16, and one end carries a finger piece 28, while upontheopposite end thereof is a ratchet wheel 29. Pivoted upon the arm 16 adjacent said' ratchet wheel 29 is a dog 30, normally forced into engagement with the teeth of the wheel, through the instrumentality of a band spring, it being of course understood that the shaft 27 may be rotated for increasing or diminishing the tension of the spring.
The cylindrical casing 5 is formed upon one side with an annular projecting portion 32, the front end thereof being open for the reception of a sight glass 33. For maintalning certain elements of the cup in their assembled relation, there is positioned'upon the plate 6 of the fitting 7 a relatively ovalshaped plate 34.," the same being provided with a comparatively large central opening 35, for permitting of theengagement of the plate over the fitting 7. Adjacent the opposite ends of the member 34, are formed vertically extending rods 37, the upper ends thereof being screw threaded and adapted for engagement through openings 38 formed within the opposite ends of a plate 40, and is somewhat similar to the plate 34, it'being of course noted that this plate is positioned upon the top cap 9.
For permitting of the engagement of'this plate over the sleeve or collar 10, the same is formed with a central opening 41, and when the two plates are assembled as shown more clearly in Figure 1, retaining nuts 42 are positioned upon the said screw threaded ends of the rods 37.
In view of the above description, it will at once be apparent that when my improved oil cup is positioned upon a movable element of a machine, such as a pitman or connecting rod, the movement thereof will'occasion a rocking movement of the arm, 20, in view of the weighted end 22. An oil cup for attachment to movable members, including an oil receiving casing having anoil outlet, and-unit carried means having a supporting member formed with a threaded sleeve for cooperation with a threaded projection'in thecasing, and a pair of arms extending from said sleeves in spaced parallel relation, a lever pivotally mounted intermediate its ends in and between said arms, carrying a rod at one end thereof formed with a valve at the lower end for co-operation with the oil outlet to close the same and weighted at the opposite end, a winding shaft rotatable transversely between the upper ends of said arms, a hair spring mounted on said shaft having the free end extending and connected to said lever for normally operating the same'to close the valve and outlet opening, means for rotating the shaft for adjusting the tension of said hair spring, means for normally holding said shaft in adjusted position, a bifurcated projection onsaid arm extending outwardly over the weighted end of the lever and an adjustable member mounted'in the lever extending through the bifurcation of said projection and co-Operating therewith for limiting the movement of the lever, and thereby the opening of the valve, for gov-- erning the oil outlet of the casing.
