J. A. BERGQUIST WATER HEATING GAS PLATE Filed Sept 22. 1923 (i Q i 0 Patented July 22, 19245.
S ATES 7 JOHN ALBIN BERGQUIST, OF DULUTH, MINNESOTA.
WATER-HEATING GAS PLATE.
Application filed September 22, 1923. Serial No. 664,161.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN A. BERo UIsT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Duluth in the county of St. Louis and State 5 of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Water-Heating Gas Plates, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to water heating gas plates and has for its principal object to produce a simple and practical means for heating the water simultaneously with the use of a gas plate.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear in the further description thereof.
Referring to the accompanying drawing forming part of this application and in which like reference characters indicate like parts:
Figure 1 is a top plan view, partly broken away, showing the interior construction thereof; and
Figure 2 is a vertical section taken on the line 2-2, Figure 1.
1 represents the body portion of a double hole gas plate, which in plan view is preferably substantially rectangular in shape and hollow, it being made of suitable cast metal. Upon the upper surface of the plate is any desired arrangement of supporting webs 2 upon which receptacles used on the gas plate may rest, as is customary in such devices.
The holes through the gas plate are indicated at 3 and i, beneath which any suitable form of burner, as indicated at 5, is installed, and the cir umferential walls of these holes I prefer to construct somewhat tapered, as clearly seen in Figure 2 of the drawings, the upper surface of the plate being inclined downwardly as at 6 towards the edges of the hole, while the under surface of the plate is arcuate in shape as at 7, the latter being for the purpose of pre senting as great a surface as possible to the flames of the burner, as well as reinforcing the edges of the hole against sudden contraction and expansion.
The interior of the plate I prefer to divide as by the vertical walls 8 and 9 forming a tortuous course for the water as it circulates through the plate, the entrance of the water into the plate occuring at a suitable orifice indicated at 10, while the discharge orifice is indicated at 11. By this means the water entering the orifice 10 is obliged to pass around to the right of the hole 4 as viewed from above and thence to the left partially around the hole 3 before it reaches the exit orifice 11. About the orifice 11 I propose to form the chamber 12 by the arcuately shaped upstanding wall 13 which does not quite reach the upperinner surface of the plate; this being for the pur- I pose of preventing cold water being discharged through the exit orifice and necessitating the water rising above and over the wall 13 before it can be ejected.
Spanning the hole 4 I have shown a hollow spider 14: which may be resorted to as an additional means of quickly heating the water, and this spider or additional heating chamber may be of any shape desired.
It is obvious that such a plate may be connected up to any form of storage tank or other device in which heated water is used and in this manner provide an exceedingly simple means for constantly supplying warm water during the use of a gas plate.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. The combination with a gas plate of the character described having two spaced burner holes therein, of a water chamber within the plate about the holes, a vertical division wall within the chamber extending horizontally between the holes, a second division wall extending from the center of the last mentioned division wall to one side of the plate, and water entranceand discharge openings through the outer wall of the plate one upon either side of the last metioned division wall, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. The combination with an organization as set forth in claim 1, of an upstanding protecting wall about the discharge opening to cause only the warmer water to pass therethrough.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses. JOHN ALBIN BERGQUIST. Witnesses:
. S. G. BRONSON, S. Gno. STEVENS.
