Referring now to the means F for operating the arm E, that is, for normally urging the hook 22 of the arm E toward the extension 9 or into clamping relation with said extension 19 when a check B is interposed therebetween, it is herein shown as a coil spring 26 seated on the portion ll of the bracket D. A screw or bolt 27 may be threaded into the seat 11, extending through the coil spring 26 and perforation 25 in the arm E, thereby preventing the spring from displacement and acting as a guide for the arm E. It is obvious that other means could be employed for the above purpose and such as is illustrated is merely by way of example. H

When it is desired to use a device such as has been described in combination with a mine car, a miner or other persondesiring to attach an identification check to the car takes the check in one hand and with the other hand pushes inwardly on the hand piece 24, thus moving the hook 22 away from the extension 19 of the bracket D. The check is then placed so that the perwith the perfo- 19, and the hand The spring 26 so that the check B will be held by the hook 22 securely against the extension 19 and in spaced re lation to the car side 5. When the car A reaches. the check weighman he merely has to grasp the check 13 and exert a downward pull and the check will slip over the inclined face 23 of the hook 22 and will be detached from the device C. By using such a device a check may be attached to a mine car so as to always be in the line of vision for inspection, not rendering it necessary for an inspector or check weighman to hunt all over the car before finding the check.

It is obvious that such a check holder A may be used for purposes other than on mine cars, but it is primarily intended for use with such. 7

I claim:

1. A check hanger comprising bracket including an intermediate portion and end portions, one end of said bracket being bent to extend outwardly beneath the intermediate portion and having an extensaid jaws and have said sion forming a foot, said foot being provided with a perforation, an arm pivoted tosaid intermediate portion having a hook at one end thereof, said hook adapted to project into said perforation in said foot for extending through a perforated article to be engaged by said hook, and into the perforation of the foot and means for yield ably hOlding said arm in a normal position with the hook extending into the perfora tion of the foot.

2. A check hanger comprising a bracket including an intermediate portion and end portions a longitudinal slot therein providing a pair of spaced lips, one end portion of said bracket being bent to provide a foot positioned beneath the intermediate portion and provided with a perforation, an arm pivoted between said lips having a hook at one end thereof, said hook adapted to project into said perforation in said foot and means for yieldably holding said arm in a. normal position with the hook extend ing into the perforation.

A check hanger comprising a bracket including an outwardly bowed intermediate portion and end portions, said intermediate portion having a longitudinal slot therein providing a pair of spaced lips, one end portion of said bracket being bent to provide a foot positioned beneath the intermrdiate portion, said foot being provided with a perforation, an arm pivoted between said lips having a hook at one end thereof defining a movable jaw, said hook adapted to project into said perforation in said foot and provided with an inclined inner face, and means for holding said jaws in a closed position, with the hook passing through a perforation in a check. positioned between said jaws and into the perforation of said hook, said check being removable therefrom by exerting a pull which will engage said inclined inner face and force said jaws apart.
