My present invention relates generally to valve grinding devices andfmore particularly to devices for effectively grindiirgv what are known as overhead valves'of the type commonlyseated. upwardly against the lower seats of their valve cages in use, with which the'valves are removable from the cylinder heads, my object being the provision of a device including a holder in which the cage may be effectively clamped in inverted position with the stem of the valve depending and with the valve thus seated downwardly, and resting upon the cage, together with a handle or hand piece capable of movable detachable connection to the valve stem so that by rotation of the handle or hand piece the valve may be ground in much similar manner, and with equal facility and eiciency, to the grinding of a downwardly seating valve in engines having` what are known as L-type heads.
A further object is the provision of a device in which the holder for Vthe valve and its cage readily provides for the reception and clamping of cages of various sizes and a still further object is the revision of a device in which the rotatab e hand piece may be so engaged with the valve stem that it is capable of actuating and causing rotation of the valve from an angular position with respect to the Vvertically depending stem.

Referring now to these figures my .invention proposes a holder by means of which valve cages such as indicated at 1() may be clamped in inverted position after removal from overhead valve engines employing such valve cages, so that the valve .11, seating upwardly against the seat 12 will,

on the seat'12 with the lstern 13 thereof depending.r This holder has an upper head Y and is preferably formed of a single strip of metal one end of whichis bent to inverted U-shape to form the head including side portions 14 and 15 ,and an upper `cross bar 16.` The holder alsoY includes a lower up# right portion 17 and a lowerangular extension 18, the former connecting with the sidepiece 111V of the head by .virtue of an inclined intermediate section 19 and having Ylike thelatter apertures 20'forthe reception of supporting bolts 21. Thesebolts come into use through the apertures 20 of the lower upright portion 17 of the holder where the holder is to be attached to a side wall or similar support, and the clamping bolts 21 are used through the'apertures of the lower rangular extension 18 where the. holder is to be secured to a horizontal surface such for instance as a work bench and the like, it being obvious that the lower vertical` portion 17 also provides for the ready clamping and support 4of the holder within a vise. or other clamping support of this nature.
The side piece 14 of the head of the holder is provided upon its inner surface with vertically disposed and angularly outstanding clamping wings 22, projecting toward the side piece 1 5, and the latter has threaded therethrough a clamping bolt or thumb screw 23 which provides for adjustf able engagementl with the external surface of a\-valve cage 10 so as to clamp the latter between the inner end of this clamping bolt and the angular wings 22. My invention also proposes a handle and the like 24 having annular enlargements 25 and 26 at its upper and lower ends and having an axial stem or rod 27 'projecting therefrom and-provided at its free end with aIfixed sleeve 28 adapted to loosely telescope the lower free end of the valve stem 13 and to Vbe movably connected with the f said valve stem as by means of a Cotter pin 29 extending through diametrical openings in the sleeve and through the elon- O'ated or ,slotted opening 80 adjacent to the fare@ end of the valve stem as usual.
