citizen of the German Empire, residing at Langerfeld, near Barmen, Germany, have invented certain'new and useful Improve;
ments in Lace-Braiding Machines, of which the following is a specification."
My invention relates to a lace-braiding machine in which the bobbin-carriersfeanbe arrested by being withdrawn from thecon stantly rotated drivers and looked in ienlargements of the bobbin-traclgjsaid enlargements being usually formed at the crossings of the bobbin-track by partly 'removingcertain points of thetrack-plate. It specially refers to a braiding machine of the type de scribed and claimed in my prior PatentNo. 1,034,688, in which a patterngear oontrolled rod is arranged, said rod being movablefup and down and projecting above the track plate. Belowv the track plate a so-called bobbin-withdrawer is mounted on the rod consisting of a guide-member adapted, when the rod is lifted, to guide a bobbin-carrier into an enlargement of the bobbin-track and to lock it there, whereas to the upper end of said rod a pawl-like member is linked which, on the descent of the rod moves out laterally .andpresses against the upper guidedisc of the bobbin-carrier, thus pushing the latter back into the bobbin-track within the reach ofthe drivers. In this known machine the guide' of bobbin-carriers which are intendedto passfthe crossings of the bobbin-track without being arrested is'a somewhat defective one because of; the missing, points of. the track-plate. The object of my present improvements is therefore to more perfectly guideithose bob bin:carriers by so constructing the aforesaid pawl-like. member that it performs the office of the missing track-plate point" when the pattern gear controlled rodfto which said memberand also the aforesaidIbobbin-with drawer are attached is lowered. According to my invention a substantially triangular plateis arranged on theupperside of the free end of thepawl-like member, said plate beinga'd'apte d tolco-act with the stem of a bobbin-carrierfand thus to guide the latter securely past the enlargement ofithe bobbin track. The plates 5, b are as well known in the art laid out in a circle. They are positioned in recesses of the track-plate a, which forms thejouter curvature of the bobbin-track. The latter is,.as clearly shown in Figs.- 1 and 3, composed'of two undulary tracks crossing each other between two adjacent plates 6, b. Below the plates 6, b the drivers on the line rotated, the one to the left, the other to the right, impart motion to the bobbin-carriers ,g first in the one direction and then inthe other depending on the particular driver by which a bobbin-carrier is driven. Alternately 011 the inner side and outer' side of the bobbin-track there are provided at the crossings of the latter tongue-switches g, which serve, in a well-known manner for directing the bobbin-carriers according to the braid to be produced. Opposite each tongueswitch 9 the track-plate points normally projecting in between two adjacent plates 22, b is terminated so as to form an enlargement of the bobbin-track in which a bobbincarrier may be arrested. Below each blunt track-plate point a so called bobbin-withdrawer-d is provided. The latter possesses at its end facing the bobbin-track a guide rail fiwhich, when the withdrawer is in its lifted position, engagesthe downwardly projectingpin g of a bobbin carrier and leads the latter into the enlargement of the bobbin-track. In this way the bobbin-carrier is withdrawn from the drivers and arrested see rightkhand part'of Fig. 1 and left-hand part of Fig.2).

With the lower end of the rod 6 a tie rod of the pattern gear (not shown) is connected so that the rod, in a well 'known manner, may be pulled down by means of the pattern-gear, The upper end of the rod 2'- 0, care arranged, which, being continuously which projects above the track-plate a has an arm n attached to it, to. which is. pivoted a pawl-like member 0, resting with its free end 0 on the track-plate a just behind the upper guiderdisc 9 of a bobbin-carrier arrested at the corresponding track-plate point. On the descent of the rod 2' said pawl-like member 0 moves out laterally and, pressing against the guide disc 9 pushes the arrested bobbin-carrier back into the track within the reach of. the drivers 0, 0. See left-hand part of Fig. 1 and right-hand part of Fig. 3.
According to my invention a substantially triangular plate 7" is arranged onthe upper side of the free end 0 of the pawl-like member 0, said plate 1" being so shaped that it performs the oflice of the missing trackplate point when the rod 2' is lowered and the pawl-like member 0 moved out laterally (see Figs. 3 and 4;). It may thereby, as shown, be fastened to the pawl 0 by screws or the like or form an integral part of said pawl. The plate 1*, being adapted to" co-act with the stem g of a bobbin-carrier, serves to guide those bobbin-carriers which are intended to pass the crossings of the bobbintrack without being arrested. To this. end the rod '5 with the bobbin-withdrawer d is lowered before the downwardly projecting pin g of a bobbin-carrier can engage the guide-rail f of the withdrawer (Z. Thus, on
, the one hand, the arresting of the bobbincarrier approaching the crossing of the bob-- bin-track is avoided, while on they other hand, the bobbin-carrier is by means of the triangular plate 7" securely guided past the enlargement of the bobbin-track. In order that the upper guide-disc g of the bobbincarrier'may not run against the pawl-like member 0,. the free end of the latter is, on its underside, provided with two outwards ly and upwardly inclined faces 39 p so that the pawl 0 may be lifted by the guide disc 9 of the bobbin-carrier while said guide disc slides underneath the pawl -0. By this means I am not only enabled to provide for a sufficiently broad working face at. the free end a of the pawl 0, but I may, at the same time, somewhat shorten the triangular plate a so that, on pushing an arrested bobbin carrier again into the path of the drivers the point of said plate 1" does notcontact the stem g of the bobbin-carrier. Claims:
I. A lace-braiding machine comprising: a bobbin-track and bobbin-carriers guided therein, said bobbin-track having enlargements for temporarily arresting bobbin-carriers, constantly rotating drivers for said bobbin-carriers, a pattern-gear controlled rod movable up and down, a guide-member mounted on said rod for guiding a bobbincarrier intov an enlargement of said bobbintrack and out of the path of said drivers, a pawl-like member linked to. the upper end of said rod for restoring an arrested bobbincarrier to the path of the saiddrivers, a sub stantially triangular plate. on the. free, end of said pawl-like member for guiding, a. nonarrested bobbin-carrier past. the enlarge.- ment. of said bobbin-track.

I wish to. state that my invention is not storing an arrested. bobbin-carrier to -the path of said drivers, the free end of said pawl being normally guided in the plane of the upper guide discs of said bobbin-carriers and adapted to co-act with said discs, a substantially triangular plate provided on the upper side of the free end of said pawl for guiding a non-arrested bobbincarrier past the enlargement of said bobbintrack, said plate being adapted to co-act with the stems of said bobbin-carriers, and outwardly and upwardly inclined faces on the underside of the free end of said pawl for temporarily lifting said pawl above the upper guide-disc of a non-arrested bobbincarrier, said faces being adapted to co-act 1 with said upper guide-disc.
