To all whom zt may concern.

Be it known that I, FREDERICK PORTMAN, a citizen of the Dominion of Canada, and resident of Vernon, in the county of Yale and Province of British Columbia, Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Games, of which the following is a specification.

This invention has relation to certain new and useful improvements in a game-which will be instructive and entertaining to per-- sons of various ages and which will afford much amusement for those playing and others. who may be watching the game.

The invention has for a primary .object the provision of a game of the character stated, which will include a transparent member employed as the cover of a box containing small game pieces of light weight which are attracted to the transparent cover member as a result of rubbing the upper side of the cover member, numbered circles, squares, or both, being provided on the cover member so as, to determine the points made in the playing of the game by the numbers on the portions of the cover memher with which the game pieces are engaged.

Another object of the invention resides in the provision of a game of the character stated, in which the transparent cover member will be hingedly mounted on the game piece box so that it may be raised when desiredfor the purpose of removing the game pieces fromthe transparent cover member and arranging the game pieces in the box.

The invention has for a further object the provision of a game of the character described, which will be amusing when played in any one, of a number of different ways and which will be comparatively inexpensive to manufacture, may be played by any number of persons and will be composed of the minimum number of parts.

' W'ith the foregoing and other objects in view, as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of co-operating elements as hereinafter more specific-ally set forth, claimed and shown in the accompanying drawings forming a part of the presentapplication in which:

Referring more in detail to the drawings, in which similar reference. characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, 10 indicates the box which is shown as being of rectangular form and provided with a bottom 11 of cardboard or other suitable material. The box 10 has an open upper side on which is mounted the transparent cover member 12 constructed of glass or the like. Suitable cushioning strips 13 are secured upon the upper edges sides of the cover member 12, as shown in the drawings. The covermember 12 is hinged to one end of the box 10 by the flexible hinge strip 15, as shown clearly in Figs. 1 and 2, one portion of the hinge strip 15 being secured on the end of the box 10,. while the opposite portion of the strip 15 is secured to the end of the cover member 12. The cover member 12 may be raised by ,its opposite or free end and may be supported in raised position, as indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 1, by means of the pivoted supporting legs 16. These legs 16 are carried in the box 10 and pivoted thereto beneath the free end portion of the cover member 12. The supporting legs 16 have bevelled free ends 17 for receiving the cover member 12 when the legs 16 are. raised. 'The numerals 1, 2, 3, and 5 indicate the value of the respective sections on the cover member 12 to which such numerals apply and the points made by each player are counted according to the marking of the several sections of the cover member 12, .as will be later more clearly stated.

For use inconnection with the box 10 and its cover member 12, the game pieces 23 are employed. These game pieces consist preferably of small pieces of a thin, light-weight paper and maybe circular, as shown, or of any other configuration. The game pieces 23 may be arranged in a particular manner ,or order within the box 10 or may be placed indiscriminately as desired while the cover member 12 thereof is in its raised position.

After closing the cover member 12, the game ieces 23 may be attracted to the under si e of the cover member 12 as will be later more clearly stated. The game pieces Y 23 and the comparatively small central cirdo 22 should be of approximately the same diameter, thereb making it necessary for the player to bring a game piece to the exact centre of the cover member 12 in order to count five points.

The construction of 'all of the game apparatus included in this game should now e clear without further detailed description. While many different sets of rules may be provided for playing the game,'the

principle in each case will be the same, the

object always being to bring the game pieces from'the floor or bottom 11 of the x 10' to the underside of the cover member 12 by rubbing the upper side of the cover member 12. The act of rubbing the upper side of the cover member 12 with cloth, the hand or other suitable means results in charging the cover member 12 with static electricity, thereby attracting the game pieces 23 to the under side of the cover member 12., The cover member 12 may be rubbed with a circular movement over the same, beginning at the centre, or by movements longitudinally, transversely or diag-' onally over the cover member 12, when attempting to bring the game pieces 23 to position upon the marked portions of the cover I member 12 Where the greater number of points may be counted as a result of the positions of the ame pieces 23 on the cover member 12. indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 1, while the game pieces 23 are removed therefrom and again placed on the bottom 11 of the box 10, ready for the next player. It is evident that the game pieces 23 may be of diiferent colors or of different values, if desired, and any appropriate rulesmaybe provided for the playing of the game.

While the preferred embodiment of the invention has been disclosed, it is to be understood that minor changes may be resorted to, within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

'What I claim as new is:

1. A game apparatus comprising a game box, a cover member hinged to said box, means carried by said box to support the cover member in raised position, game pieces adapted'to rest in said game box, said cover member bein adapted tobe charged with static electricity to attract'the game pieces to the under side of said cover member when the latter is inclosed position, cushion strips for the edges of the cover member, said cushion strips being carried on the upper edge of the sides and ends of the box and edge protecting members secured upon the cover member around the edges thereof.

2. A game apparatus comprising a-game piece container, a transparent cover member hinged to said container and resting upon the edges thereof, said transparent cover member being marked off into squares member, said squares and circles being numbered, game pieces within said game piece container, said game pieces being adapted to be attracted to the under face of the transparent cover member opposite the numbered support said transparent cover member in raised position.
