The inventlon contemplates an alarm apparatus which is especially designed to be associated with a carrying case for valuables, and whlch is provided with means for actuating the alarm in event the, case is wrested from the carrier.

As a further object the invention con:- templates an audible alarm associated with the carrier which is provided with means for normally rendering the alarm inactive, but which is operable upon the theft or stealing of the case from a carrierto render the alarm active.

The invention seeks as a further object to provide means for preventing the re-association of the means for holding the alarm inactive with the alarm actuating means until the case has been unlocked and opened and the means reset.

With the above recited and other objects in view, the invention resides 'in the novel construction set forth in the following specification, particularly pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, it, being understood that the right is reserved to embodiments other than those actually illustrated herein to the full extent indicated by the general meaning'of the terms in which the claims are expressed.

In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of a carrying case equipped with an alarm constructed in accordance with the invention and illustrating the manner in which the same is carried.

Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view therethrough.

Fig. 3 is a fragmentary enlarged transverse sectional view taken approximately on the line 33 of Fig. 2.

Referring to the drawings by charactersof reference,10 designates a carrying case provided with a hinged cover 11. The interior, of the body of the case 10 is partitioned as at 12 to provide a compartment 13 in which an audible signal 14 is arranged, said signal beingpreferably in the nature plan view of the hey of anelectric siren or horn, the open end I of which is arranged adjacent an outlet opening 15 in the case whereby the sound will be clearly audible when the case is closed. The opening 15 is'provided with inner and outer bai'lle' plates-16 which prevent the insertion of an instrument for the purpose of rendering the signal inactive.

A spaced balile plate 17 is secured tothe 7 outer side of the case to prevent the muflling of the sound by placing of the hand or any object over the'opening. Within the compartment 13 a battery 18 is also arranged, one pole of which is connected by a circuit wire 19 to the signal and the opposite pole of which'is connected by a circuit wire 20 to one of the contact arms 21-of a circuit closer, the opposite arm 22 of which is con nected by'a conduit wire 23 to the movable arm 24 of akey actuated switch 25. A stationary contact element 26. with which the I movable arm 24 cooperatesis connected by a conduit wire 27 to the opposite pole of the signal 14. The key actuated switch 25, eXtendsthr-ough the case and is provided. with a keyhole 28 in which [a key 29 is' insertable for turning the arm respectively t0 positions'foriopening and closing the cir-- cuit. The arrangement of the key and switch issuch that in order to remove the key 29 the switch, of necessity, is closedto bring the arm 24 into engagement with the contact 26. The

21 and 22 of the circuit closer normally function to close the circuit, but are held apart by means of a plug 30 which is insertable through a socket 31 formed in the case 10.

The plug is connected by cables .32 to a wrist strap 33 and is locatedadjacent the handle 34 ofthe carrying case whereby the 7 carrier may conveniently carry the case as illustrated in Fig.1 while the plugis inserted in the socket. 1 In use and operation when a carrier is transporting valuables in the case, the same is locked with the plug inserted and the switch turned to close the same with the key withdrawn. In event of a hold-up or forcible taking of the case from the carrier the plug will be withdrawn from the socket 31 thus permitting the

21 and 22 of the circuit closer to contact and complete the circuit to actuate the signal and give an alarm which can only be cut off upon unlocking and opening the case. The insertion of another plug to separate the

21 and 22 is forestalled by means of an obstructing velement 35 which is in the nature of a slidable rod mounted inside of the case in a bearing 36, The rod is provided with an abutment 37 between which and the bearing a spring 38 is disposed for normally forcing the rod transversely across the socket in order to obstruct the reinsertion of the plug which has been removed or another plug similar thereto. In order to reinsert the plug it is necessary to open the case and retract the obstruction element by means of its handle 39. When the plug is inserted the obstructing element normally contacts therewith until the same is withdrawn when the spring 38 functions to force the same across the socket.

We claim:

1. The combination with a carrying case for valuables, of theft alarm therefor arranged within said case and comprising an audible electric signal, a source of electric energy, and means insertablc in said case and attached to the wrist of the carrier of the same which is operable upon withdrawal to effect the coupling of the alarm with the source of energy to actuate the same.

2. The combination with a carrying case for valuables, of a theft alarm therefor arranged within said case and comprising an audible electric signal, a source of electric energy, means inscrtable in said case and attached to the wrist of the carrier of the same, which is operable upon withdrawal to effect the coupling of the alarm with the source of energy to actuate the same, and automatically operable means for obstructing the reinsertion of an alarm actuating means without opening and resetting said obstructing means.

3. A theft alarm for carrying cases comprising an audible signaling device, means for actuating the signaling device, and means attached to a member and insertable in the case for normally holding the alarm inactive and for permitting of the actuation of the alarm upon its retraction therefrom by relative movement of the case with respect to said member.

4. An alarm for carrying cases comprising an electric circuit including a source of energy, an audible signal, a key actuated switch, and a circuit closer arranged in se' ries in said circuit, and a plug for normally holding the circuit closer open, said plug being attached to the wrist of the carrier of the case and insertable through the same to normally hold the alarm inactive for actuating the same upon its withdrawal therefrom A carrying case for valuables, including a body having a hinged cover, a theft alarm arranged in said body including an audible signal, a source of electrical energy, a circuit closer arranged in the circuit in series with the signal, and a plug cooperating with the circuit closer when inserted through the case to retain the same in a position for holding the circuit open, said plug being attached to a member and operable upon removal by relative movement between the case and said member, to close the circuit of the alarm for sounding the signal.

6. A carrying case for valuables including abody having ahinged cover, a theft alarm arranged in said body including an audible signal, a source of energy and a key actuated switch and circuit closer arranged in series in the circuit, said key actuated switch being operable to closed position upon removal of the key, a plug cooperating with the circuit closer when inserted through the case to retain the same in a position to hold the circuit open, said plug being designed to be attached to the wrist of the carrier and operable upon removal to close the circuit of the alarm means, and means automatically operable upon withdrawal of the plug to obstruct the reinsertion of the same without unlocking and opening the case and manually resetting said obstructing means.
