WILLIAM A. EING'LER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO GLOBE WER-NICKE 00., OF CINCINNATI, OHIO, A CORPORATION OF OHIO.
LEDGER FOR MACHINE POSTING.
Application filed June 10, 1922.
Z '0 all 1071 0772 it may concern. Be it known that I, lVILLIAM A. RING- LER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Ledger for Machine Posting, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention comprehends' a novel construction and arrangement of a.
ledger for machine posting which when raised a slight distance from the cabinet will be automatically moved upwardly to a position accessible to the operator. It further consists of a novel construction and arrangement of a card index support in which the card indexfile is removably supported so that the file can be readily removed and placed in a safe whenever desired.
7 It further comprehends a novel construcconstruction and arrangement of follower blocks co-operating with said support and adjustable in order to facilitate the inspection of the individual card.
It further consists of a novel construction of a cabinet.
Other novel features of construction and advantage will hereinafter more fully ap pear in the detailed description of the invention and the appended claims.
For the purpose of illustrating my invention, I have shown in the accompanying drawings a typical embodiment 'thereof which is at present preferred by me, since this embodiment will be found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable results. It is. however, to be understood that the various instrumentalities of which my invention consists can be variously arranged and organized and that my invention is not limited to the precise arrangement and organization of these instrumentalities as herein shown and described.
Figure 1 represents, in perspective, a ledger for machine posting, embodying my invention.
Figure 2 represents, in perspective, the construction seen in Figure 1 with the top open and with the filing unit removed.
Figure 3 represents a section on line 33 of Figure 4.
Figure 4 represents a section on line 44 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 represents a section similar to Figure 4 but showing certain of the parts tion and arrangement of a: support, a novel 7 Serial No. 567,491.
in'a different relation with respect to each other from that seen in Figure a.
Figure 6 represents a section on line 66 of Figure 7.
Figure 7 represents a section on line 7-7 of Figure 6.
Figure 8 represents, in perspective and in detached position, one of the follower blocks.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Referring to the drawings.
1 designates a cabinet of a ledger for machine posting embodying my invention. The cabinet isinthe form of a closed container 2 supported by standards 3. -The upper end is closed by a hinged top t. The
bottom is formed by the doors 5 hinged 15 designates a tray or file support which is preferably formed from sheet metal having a bottom portion 16 and the upwardly extending corners 17 which at their upper ends are connected with the longitudinally extending rails or bars 18 which terminate in lateral extensions 19. 2O designates U- shaped channel members secured to the bars 18 by spot welding or in any other desired manner and the outer flange of the channel terminates below the flange 19, as will be best understood by reference to Figure 7. This outer flange is designated 21 and is provided with the apertures 22 in order that the follower blocks 23 can be secured in their adjusted position.
Fiach follower block 23 is constructed in a similar manner so that a description of one will suflice for both. Each follower block 23 consists of a cross bar 24 preferably formed from sheet metal and having slidable therein the locking rods 25, the
of the cross bar 24. Vashers 27 and a spring 28 are interposed between the deflec-ted portion 26, as will be understoodeby reference to Figure '7, so that the tendency of the spring 28 is to move the locking rods away from each other, or in other Words, outwardly. The cross bar 24; is provided with an L-shaped extension. 29 which terminates in a deflected lip 30, see Figures 7 I and 8.
received between the backing 34 and its plate It will be seen that the side plates89 are provided, see Figure 3. i
The operation of my novel ledger for machine posting will nowbe readily apparent to those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains and is as follows:
it will be apparent that thetiling unit can be removed at the end of adays work and placed in a safe and when it is desired to insert it in the cabinet all that it is necessa y to do is to drop it into position on the tray 15 so that the plates-31 will be re ceivcd between the backing 34: and the plate 38 carried thereby. 'The follower blocks are slidable on the side rails and the plates 31 are hinged to their respective follower blocks so that by athustmg one ofthe'follower blocks, as for example, shown by dotted lines in figure t the different ledger or index cards are rendered readily-accessible.
lVhcn it is desirable'to close; the cabinet allthat it is necessary'to'do is press downwardly on the pedal 10 thereby causing the doors 5 to move downwardly into the position seen in Figure 4 and the cover a is then closed. Referring to Figure 7, it will be seen that the follower blocks are slidable on the rails 20 and are retainedin position between the flange 21 of the rails 20 and'the flanges l9 ofthe support sothat all it is necessary to do is to move the grasping handies 26 towards each other in order to release the locking rod and the follower block can then be moved into its desired adjusted position and locked in such position, as is apparent.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In a device of the character stated, a let ger support having side rails, follower blocks having means to interlock with said side rails and having members hinged thereto, and a ledger filing unit having backing members provided with means to receive said hinged members.
2. In a device of the character stated, a
ledger support having apertured side rails, and follower blocks slidable on said side rails and having means to interlock therewith at selected positions longitudinally of said side rails, said follower blocks having members movably connected therewith and adapted to interlock with a led er filing unitJ 3. In a device of the character stated, a ledger support having apertured side rails, follower blocks slidable on said side rails and having means to interlock therewith at selected positions longitudinally of said side rails, said follower blocks having members movably connected therewith to interlock with a ledger filing unit, and a ledger filing unit having means to receive the interlocking members of said follower blocks.
l. In a device of the character stated, a ledger support comprising a body portion having spaced side bars provided with laterally deflected flanges, rails carried by said side bars spaced from said flanges and provided with a series of apertures,follower blocks having flanges to slide on said rails between said rails and side bar flanges and having spring-pressed locking members to be received in the apertures of said side;
rails. said locking members having grasping portions to permit them to be manually actuated to effect their release from said rails,
and means inovably carried by said follower blocks and adapted to lock with a ledger filing unit.
