TENSION RING.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CLARA A. HENLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at lVaterloo, in the county of Black Hawk and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tension Rings, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in tension rings, particularly adapted for use in crocheting, knitting, tatting, fringe work,

Maltese lace, etc.

The prime object of my invention is to provide a ring of the above indicated character, which provides an easy and quick means in threading.

A further object of my invention is to provide an automatic tension to hold a thread used in connection with each of the rings.

A still further object of my invention is to provide a tensioning means for each ring, for holding any size thread, from 100 linen to yarn.

And a still further object of my invention is to provide a device of the character indicated, which will eliminate the operator of the thread from suffering with cramps in their little finger, and also to provide a ring which can be used on any finger so desired.

And a still further object of my invention is to provide a device, which will always produce even work, whether tight or loose work is desired.

An additional object of my invention is to provide a device of the above indicated character, which is simple in construction, durable, eflicient for the purpose intended, and one that can be manufactured and placed on sale at a relatively low cost.

Referring to the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this specification and which clearly shows the construction and operation of the various forms of my tension ring,

Referring to the accompanying drawing in detail, like characters will be used to designate like parts in the different views.

In Figures 1, 2, and 3, I have shown a form of my invention, wherein the ring 1 is constructed in a solid piece, and on the outer face of same, the ring is formed with grooves 8, which are of various sizes to receive different size threads 5. A spring band 9 having a longitudinal slot 10 is secured to the outer face of the ring 1 by means of screws 11. The longitudinal slot 10 of the band 9 is adapted to pass over or to permit the raised portion having the grooves 8 to project therethrough, so that the band will firmly engage the outer face of the ring.

A thread 5 may be placed in the groove 8 which is of the proper width, after slipping the thread under the free end of the tensioning member 9, so that the latter clamps the thread in the groove under sufficient tension to prevent accidental displacement under ordinary stresses, and this action relieves the finger of the operator from discomfort or injury which might be occasioned were the thread to be in the usual way wrapped around the finger.

In view of the foregoing description of my invention, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it is thought that any further explanation as to the construction, operation, or objects of my invention is unnecessary.

While I have shown and described the preferred forms of my invention, I realize that various minor changes may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed, and therefore, I do not wish to limit myself to the exact details of construction shown, nor to the combination and arrangement of parts. i What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. In a device of the character described, a ring, said ring being provided with a raised portion on one side having grooves of various sizes formed therein, a spring band secured to said ring and having a longitudinal recess therein for receiving said enlarged portion of the ring, and means for tensioning a thread between said ring and said band and in seid grooves as and for the therein tensionally and releasably by said purpose indicated. c1ampingn1ember. 0 2.
