GEORGE S. IIURST, 0F GLASTONBURY, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO 'Ill-IIS` J. B. IILIfIAIVS reatti- COMPANY, OF GLAS'IONBURY, CONNECTICUT, A CORPORATION OFCONNECT'ICUT.
ADVERTISING l-)ISIE'LAY SCREEN.
Application filed February 1, 1923.
To all whom 't may concern.'
Be it known that I, GEORGE S. HURs'r, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Glastonbury, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented new and Improved Advertising Display Screens, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to the class of devices employed in connection with the display of merchandise to advertise the same, and an object of my invention, among others, is to provide a-device of this class that may be arranged to describe different articles of merchandise, thereby avoiding the use of different structures for advertising different kinds of merchandise.
One form of screen embodying my invention and in the construction and useof which the objects herein set out, as well as others, may be attained, is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a view in elevation of my improved advertising screen showing the flaps opened out in the same plane.
Figure 2 is an edge view of the same showing in dotted lines the positions in which the different flaps may be placed.
Figure 3 is a top view showing the flaps folded in position for use.
Figure et is a perspective view of the screen placed in condition for use.
Figure is a perspective view illustrating the manner of use to describe different articles of merchandise.
Figure 6is a front view of the screen illustrating its use in connection with an article of merchandise different from that illustrated in Figure l.
In the accompanying drawings the numeral 7 denotes a back piece, that is composed of any suitable material, as cardboard, such back piece having a main flap S hinged thereto at its upper end so that said main flap may be folded in a position in front of the back piece or in a position back of the same. The front face 9 of the back piece, this being said face shown in Figure 1, is designed to receive any suitable advertising matter in connection with merchandise, as for instance` tooth paste. The front face 10 of the main flap 8 which will be that face located at the front when said flap is folded and placed in front, as shown in Figure 6, is designed to receive any suitable display Serial No. 616,227.
matter for some other kind of merchandise, as for instance, shaving soap.
Side wings 11--12 are hinged to opposite side edges of the back piece 7 and these sideJ wings are intended to receive upon their front faces display matter, which may be for the same kind of goods as described on the front of the back piece, or which may be for goods of another variety.'y
Supplemental side flaps 13-14 are hinged to the top edges of the side wings 11 and 12 so that they may be folded down against the back of the said wings 11 and 12, and as illustrated in Figure l, or they may be folded in front of said side wings whenidesired, and as illustrated by one of said flaps shown in Figure 5. The front faces 1516 of the supplemental flaps, which will ,be those surfaces toward the observer when said flaps are located in front of the side wings, are intended to receive any suitable display matter for advertising a variety of goods other than that described on the front face of the side wings. f
Preferably, in the use of my improved screen, the back piece and the side wings will be used for display purposes in connection with merchandise of a certain kind,
and the display faces of the main flap and the supplemental side flaps will be employed for display purposes in connection with merchandise of another sort. It will thus be seen that my improved screen, comprising a single structure, may be employed for display purposes in connection with two or more articles of merchandise, the screen commonly being set upright adjacent to or among the said articles, the faces of the wings describing such articles being toward the front. The liaps may afterward be positioned rto describe another article of merchandise and the screen then placed with the display of such articles, or different kinds of merchandise may be arranged 1n a single display, or in adjacent displays, and the flaps when properlyarranged will serve to function with the different varieties of goods.
I claim- 1. A display screen comprising a back iece, side wings hinged thereto, and a Hap ninged to they upper edge of each side wing and foldable thereover for assuming positions either forwardly or rearwardly of the back piece and side wings.
2. A' display screen comprising a back piece, side wings hinged thereto, and a Hap hinged to the upper edge of the back piece and each side wing and oldable thereover 5 for assuming positions either forwardly or rearwardly of the back piece and side wings.
3. A display screen comprising a back piece, side wings hinged thereto, and a flap hinged to the upper edge of the back piece and each side wing and foldable thereover for assuming positions either forwardly or rearwardly of the back piece and side wings, the side wings being of less height than the back piece and said aps being of the same length as the members carrying the same.
