Be it known that I, ANNIE EMSLEY, a

citizen in the United States, residing at Providence, in the countyl of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Drawers and Abdominal Support for Men, of which the following 1s a specification. I

My invention relates to improvements 1n combination drawers and abdominal supports for men.

The advantages of a one-piece undergarment consistingl of a pair of drawers with a re-enforced abdominal supporting portion are obvious. The discomfort of a separate truss or bandage underneath the drawers which are' made to fit the wearer without the bandage, is obviated, and the support is at all times conveniently accessible with the drawers. I am aware that broadly' speaking combined drawers and loose ittinglunfashioned abdominal supports are old, but I believe that I for the first time incorporate adjustable truss features into this type of undergarment. A plurality of belts or loose fitting bandages have been used,'but lI furnish more support than these by incorporating flexible pieces of stiff boning, whether metallic or otherwise, in the abdominal supporting portion itself. Itis obvious that the exact position of these re-enforcing strips may be varied so as to concentrate the desired extra pressure on any spot on the waist or abdomen, and thus provide truss re-enforcement therefor. In addition, I construct my supporting portion of suitable width, larger in front than in the rear, in order to lift up the stomach in the front,

and to protect the kidneys in the rear, and fashion it so as to suitably conform to and support the' entire waist. The vent and lacing in the rear renders it readily ad]ustable to furnish any desired amount of pressure, and the front is similar to that of an ordinary pair of drawers. u

A further object of my inventlon 1s to provide an adjustable combination drawers and abdominal sup ort which 1s in reality drawers, and may e put on and taken oil with the same facility as ordinary drawers,

butlwhich has abdominal supporting means incorporated therein.

A further object of my invention is to provide a novel undergarment for men fashionably inclined.

A further object of my invention is to provide an obesity reducing undergarment, the stomach not only being supported, but the stouter upper portion thereof also tending to produce apsweat, which tends to reduce the wearerswaist.

A further object of my invention is t provide a more sanitary belt than hitherto which being attached to the drawers, is automatically washed each week with them.

These and such other objects of'm invention 4as'may hereinafter appear will be understood from a description oftone embodiment thereof, such as is illustrated in the accompanying drawings.

Fig. 3 is a front view of one of the halves of the abdominal supportin portion, part of the layer of fabric being roken away to show the position of the additional supporting elements.

In the drawings, wherein like characters of Areference indicate like parts throughout, 10 generally indicates theabdominal supporting or waist portion of my invention. This is preferably constructed out vof a closely woven comparatively stout material such as 4canvas or corset cloth. The outer layer 11 is suitably sewed to the inner layer 12 thereof as isshown. in Fi 3. 13 indicates the drawers portion which is suitably sewed or otherwise secured to the lower ede of the waist portion 10. This is preferably constructed4 of a knitted woolenA fabric though 1itl is obvious that any type of drawers may be employed.`

As stated, the waist ortion 10 is of a suitable width and is suitably fashioned to conform to the curvature of the body,- and is preferably wider at the front, as at 15,

to conveniently encompass, raise up and support the stomach and abdomen and preferably narrow in the rear as at 16, to con veniently cover and protect the kidneys. An inspection of the front and'rear elevations shown in Figs. 1 and 2, shows how 18 toge *

My invention, however, goes further than this. In addition to providing the novel undergarment heretofore described, l incorporatein garments of this type the truss features now to be described. lf insert between the layers. 11 and 12 of the stout fab- 'As it is possible to vary the position of a truss, so may these additional su porting elements be suitably placed where t e greatest amount of support is desired, and the position thereof varied on a physicians prescription. )In the embodiment shown which illustrates a garment suitable for an averfat man, not in any particular need of ditional su port, the boning strips 29 are referablyl p aced in the front thereof to ring additional-pressure to bear against the stomach, and the cords 28 are suitably placed at intervals around the waist. ll employ the word boning to signify stiff dexible re-enforcing strips whether made out of bone, whalebone, metalv or otherwise.

llt is understood that my invention is not limited to the specific embodiment" shown, and that various deviations may be made therefrom without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.

`What lf claim as new and desire to secure as Letters Patent is:

1. A one-piece undergarment for men, comprising an abdominal supporting portion constructed out of stout inelastic material fashioned t`o compactly enclose and support the waist and abdomen, re-enforcedV by cords and boning strips substantially vertically encased at intervals therein and having additional re-enforcing straps horizontally enclosed therein, and a vented portion in the rear the sides of which may be adjustably laced together, and a drawers portion permanently attached to the lower edge thereof.

2. A one-piece undergarment for men, comprising an abdominal supporting portion constructed out of stout inelastlc material fashioned to compactly enclose and support the waist and abdomen, reenforced by cords and boning strips substantially vertically .encased at intervals therein and having a vented portion in the rear the sides of whichmay be adjustably laced together, and a drawers portion permanently .attached to the lower edge thereof.

A one-piecel undergarment for gmen, comprising an abdominal supporting portion constructed' out of stout inelastic material fashioned to compactly enclose and support the waist and abdomen, havin a vented portion in the rear the sides of which may' be adjustably laced together, and a drawers portion permanently attached tov the lower edge thereof.

8. A one .piece under-garment for men comprising a 'boned abdominal supporting belt portion fashioned to compactly enclose and support the waist and abdomen and a drawers portion permanently attached to the lower edge thereof. v

9.`A1 one-piece undergarment for men, comprising an abdominal supporting portion constructed out of stout inelastic material wider at the front than at the back and made in two halves, each half being constructed out of three inclined pieces so as to conform to the curvature of the body, and eac-h half having strips of honing and re-enforcing cords substantially vertically encased at intervals therein, the boning being placed where the greatest support is desired andprovided with additional re-enforcing straps horizontally encased therein, buttons to join each half together at the front and lacing to adj ustably join each half at the rear, and a drawers portion secured to the lower edge of said abdominal supporting portion.

10. A one-piece lundergarment for men,l

comprising anabdominal supporting portion constructed out of stout inelastic. material wider at the front than at the back and made n two halves, each half being constructed out of three inclined pieces so as to conform tothe curvature of the body, and each half having strips of boning and re-enforcing cords substantially vertically encased at intervals therein, the boning .bein placed where the greatest support is desired and provided with means to adjustably secure the halves together, and a drawers portion secured to the lower edge of said abdominal supporting portion.

11. A one-piece undergarment for men, comprising an abdominal supporting portion constructed out of stout inelastic material made in two halves, each half being -constructed out of three inclined pieces so as to conform to the curvature ofthe body, and each half having strips of boning and reenforcing cords substantially vertlcally encased at intervals therein, the honing bein placed where the greatest support is desire means to adjustably secure the halvestogether, and a drawers ortion secured to the ower edge of said albdominal supporting portion.
