Angeles, in the ounty of Les State of California, have invented new and useful Im rovements in Rota Well-Boring Pipe ouplings, of which the following is a specification.
- boring apparatus, and more particularly to an improved coupling for the tube or cas ing sections that extend downwardly into thewell and which coupling may also be utilized between a boring pipe section and to provide a strong and substantial joint between the connected members, and further to provide a coupling that provides a strong and substantial joint between tube or casing sections or between -a tube or casing member and a tool receiving member or socket.
With the foregoing and other objects in.
.view, my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts that will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in' which- Fig. 1 is a vertical section taken lengthwise through the center of a coupling of my improved construction and showing the same applied to the adjacent ends of-a pair of tube or casing sectionsQ Fig. 2 is ahorizontal section taken approximately on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.

The shoulders 15 that are formed between the body 10 and the extensions 11 of smaller diameter are inclined or beveled, the arrooves are provided for the reception of the ends of the casing 'or tube sections 16 that are joined by the coupling, and in order to provide a snug fitbetween the parts at these shoulders or under cut grooves the ends of the'tube or casing sections 16 are inclined or beveled to correspond with the inclination of the faces of the undercut grooves. In assembling the coupling the casing or tube sections 16' are-driven onto the end portions 11 of the' coupling member 10 until the ends of said sections fit snugly within the under cut. grooves between the body 10 of the coupling andthe reduced end portions 11, after which the casing or tube sections are rigidly secured to the tubular end portions 11 by spot welding through the overlapping portions of sai tube or casing sections and the tubular end portions 11. Whenthe tube or casing sections 16 are driven onto the tubular extensions 11 the annular ribs or corrugations on the peripheral surfaces of the latter engage the inner surfaces of the tube or cas ing sections and materiallyassist in retaining the parts in assembled relation.

In the modified construction illustrated in Fig. 3 the couplin body 18 is provided a depending externall threaded .taered cylindrical member 19 that is adapte to receive the internall threaded upper end of a tool such as a dri'l or' a rotary cutter, and formed integral with the upper end of the body 18 is an axially disposed cylindrical extension 20 that is adapted to be inserted in the lower portion of a tube or casing member 21. The
periphery of this extension 20 is ribbed or corrugated circumferentially in order that the coupling member may be firmly secured to the tube or casing section. If desired, this form of coupling may be rigidly fixed tothe :tube or casing section by spot welding.

capable of being easily and quickly connected or disconnected, and is very effective in performing its intended functions. It will be understood that minor changes in the size, form and construction of the various parts of. my tube or casing coupling may be made and substituted for.
