Be it known that I, ARNOLD F. GLASS, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Birmingham, in the county of Jefferson and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements.
in Gas Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a new anduseful improvement in gas stoves, having yfor its object to design a stove which is comparatively inexpensive in construction, in which maximum efficiency is obtained from the heat of combustion of gas burners disposed inder a closed top having remo-vable stove A further object of my invention is to increase the economy of'operationv of the stove by providing in addition to the main large burners in the fire chamber, a smaller supplemental gas burner disposed in the flue between the top of the oven andthe top of the stove 'and in line with an eye, which supplemental burner is adapted to supply heat for a cooking vessel in the eye and additionally to keep the oven hot when it is not desired to utilize the main burners.
My invention also comprises other novel details of construction and arrangements of parts which are hereinafter more particularly described in the following specification and set forth in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a vertical longitudinal cross-sectional view through the stove.
Fig. 2 is a horizontal cross-sectional view v taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.

It being the object of my invention io attain the advantageous results in mind by the simplest, most durable and least expensive construction, I have shown a typical gas stove embodying my invention comprising a' rectangular sheet metal body 1 having a top marginal flange 2 and a bottom 3. rlihe stove has an opening l inits bottom below the lire chamber 5, which is shown disposed between the left hand end wall and a vertical trans-` verse partition 6 which forms the left hand end wall of the o-ven 7 and extends from the front wall 8 to the back wall 9 of the stove and is suitably connectedV thereto andy to the bottom 3. This wall 6 serves with the horizontal and vertical partitions 10, 1l and 12 chamber 5. v n l yprovide a supplemental burner 38 located to form the four walls which define the o-ven 7, and said partitions are so spaced from the stove walls as to form a flue comprising a top portion '13 leading from the fire chamber over the ovenrto a down flue portion 14 which enters a bottom iiue portion 15 returning below the oven to the partition 6. `The bottom oven wall 12 in its front corner adjacent to the wall 6 has a series of holes or heat openings 16 which are formed in a perforated section which is preferably not integral with the bottom, but-,as shown in Fig. 2is formed by a separate plate'17 detachably connected 'to the bottom 12 by bolts lor by catches 86 which can be operated to readily release the plate so that it can be removed.
I provide a stacker 'iiue 19 which is. suitably y connected to `the back wall 9 ofthe stove and extends from 'top to bottom 4thereof,"said' flue being in register with a slot or heat outlet opening 20 'in the back wall of theoven,`
I provide sliding dampers 23 "and 24 regis-y tering respectively with the openings 2O and 21 and connected together by a strap or bar 25. Both dampers are adapted to be operated by the 'single rod 26 which rises above the top of the stove and hasa series of teeth or shoulders 27 thereon which will engage thestove ktop 28 and hold the dampers in set position. The dampers are of such size and `sie connected that when either is fully open the other is fully closed and vice versa.
The stove top 28is preferably formed as a casting having' the customary stove eyes 29 therein closed by removable lids 30 and it issuitably bolted or connected tothe body {ianges 2. The stove is supported by. suitable legs 31 and is provided with main,L burners 32 preferably extending aproximately from front toy rear of the stove and disposed in the yupper portion of the fire Inaddition to these burners I in the flue'13 above the oven and disposed immediately below a stove eye` 29.
In the front wall of the oven is a hinged p door 34. The burners 32 and 38 are preferably connected to the gas main 35 through the front wall' of the stove and have 'the usual air and gas control elements which need not be described.
ln operation, ,having assembled the Stove in the manner described, for ordinary cooking purposes where it is desired to use a number of the eyes to cook on top of the stove and in addition to use the oven, the main burners 32 are used, the products of combustion therefrom rising and passing to the right through the iue 13 above the oven and down flue 111 at the right of the oven and back forward through flue 15 towards the Jfront Yleft hand corner of the oven and thence passing up through the perforations 16 in the oven bottom 17 and through outlet 2O to the stack. It outlet 20 is closed `and outlet 2l is open, the heat will be diverted from the oven andV will flow under the oven to the outlet 21 and thence up the stack. In intermediate positions the dampers 23 and 2A regulate the exact amount of heat desired to be passed through the oven. By removing plate 17 the bottom flue 15 can be cleaned or' all matter that may collect therein.
Having thus described my invention,
what l claim as new and desire tosecure by Letters Patent, is
1.Y A gas burning stove having at one side a fire chamber with gas burners therein, a closed top for thevstove having removable lids, partitions ,forming within the stove an oven, therpartitions being spaced from the top and'bottomwalls and the end wall of the stove remote Jfrom the tire chamber to form fa iue about the oven, the partition y inlet ports disposed in the forward corner of the oven bottom adjacent to the tire chamber, a stack having heat outlets leading from the oven and from the flue below the oven, and damper means to control said outlet ports.
2. A gas stove in accordance with claim 1, in which the heat ports in the oven bottom are formed in a removable plate forming part of the bottom.
3. A gas burning stove comprising a closed top provided with removable lids anda bottom, vertical and horizontal connecting partitions in the stove body which define therein an oven spaced from the top, bottom and end walls of the body, a lire chamber at one side of the oven having large capacity gas burners therein, a small supplemental gas burner arranged in the space above the oven and disposed under one of the removable top lids, a partition interposed between the Hue space below the oven and the lire chamber, a plurality of heat ports opening through the bottom of the oven, a stack having a connection with the line space below the oven and with the upper portion of the' oven, and damper means to regulate the admission of the products of combustion through said ports to the stack.
