To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM JAMES MILLs, a citizen of the United States, residing at est Hazleton, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in Bathtub Jacks; and I do declare the fol lowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention has for its principal object to provide an extremely simple and inexpensive, yet a highly efficient and desirable jack for lifting bath tubs or other articles while inserting linoleum or other floor coverings thereunder.

In carrying out the above end, I provide an adjustable screw-threaded rod which carries the head of the jack, and a further object is to connect said head and rod in a simple manner which will hold them against relative rotation.

With the foregoing in view, the invention resides in the novel. subject matter hereinafter described and claimed, the description being supplemented by the accompanying drawing. 7

tically disposed shank which may well be formed of wood, the lower end of said shank having a ferrule 2 which carries a vertically disposed plate 3 adapted to rest in the angle between the floor and wall of a room, as shown in Fig. l. The plate 3 is preferably offset to some extent from the shank 1 and may well be provided on its lower edge with teeth 4: which prevent slipping under circumstances which might otherwise permit such slipping.

The upper end of the shank 1 is provided with a longitudinal bore 5 which opens through its upper extremity and'the latter is preferably reinforced by a metal cap 6 having an opening registering with said bore. A screw-threaded rod 7 passes through the opening in the cap and is slidably received in the bore 5, being provided with an appropriate wing-nut 8 normally contacting with said cap. The upper end of the rod 7 carries a horizontally elongated rectangular head 9 which is shaped to fit under the rim of a bath tub as shown in Fig.1, and a simple yet efficient connection is provided between the rod and head to hold the latter against turning when rotating the nut 8 to raise the tub.

In the preferred form of construction, the head 9 is formed of a main lower section 10 and a supplemental upper section 11, both of which may well be formed of wood and secured together by ordinary wood screws 12. i The inner or upper side of the head section 10 is provided with a flat sided socket 13 and said section is formed with a central opening 14 leading from said socket to the lower side of the head. The rod 7 is received in this opening and is provided with a fiat-sided head 15 snugly received in the socket 13 and held in the latter by the head section 11. This construction is simple and inexpensive, yet will produce the desired result.

From the foregoing taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it will be seen that I have provided an extremely simple and inexpensive jack which may be advantageously used for raising bath tubs while inserting floor coverings thereunder. Also, the device may be used for other purposes if desired and in all instances will be highly efiicient. I

As excellent results may be obtained from the details disclosed, they are preferably followed, but within the scope of the invention as claimed, minor changes may be made.

I claim: 7
