To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, VVILLIAM LARSEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Green Bay, in the county of Brown and State of lVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Crane- Swinging Devices, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to a crane swinging device, and has for its primary object the provision of a device of this character, wherein a stationary gear in the form of a base is fixed to a foundation or flooring, while above said base is a frame or turntable, which carries the crane column, the latter being pivoted centrally of the base, and upon the frame are bearings having journaled therein a horizontally disposed driving shaft, which through worm-gear reducing mechanism is connected to a driven shaft vertically supported upon the frame, the driven shaft being fitted with a pinion meshing with the stationary gear, so that when power is imparted to the driven and driving shafts the frame will be turned thereby swinging the crane to the desired positions.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, which is simple in construction, positive in operation, possessing but few parts, strong, durable, efficacious in action, and inexpensive in manufacture and installation.
ith these and other objects in view the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
It is to be understood of course that changes, variations and modifications may be made in the invention, without departing from the spirit of the invention, as fall properly within the scope of the appended claim.

' Referring to the accompanying drawings, in detail, A, designates generally a portion of a foundation or flooring, on which a rela tively large gear 5, forming a base, is fixed in any suitable manner, the base being of any desirable construction, while above the same is a movable frame 6, constituting a turntable for the crane. Journaled centrally of the stationary gear 5, is the lower end of the crane column 7 which rises vertically the desired distance, the column being also made fast in the frame 6, and braced in any suitable manner.
The frame 6, at one end projects a distance beyond the gear 5, and has fixed at this end a vertical pillow block 8, in which is journaled a vertically disposed driven shaft 9, which has fixed thereto a wormgear 10, meshing with a worm-screw 11, formed on or fixed to a driving shaft 12, the wormgear and screw constituting the reducing mechanism between the shafts. The shaft 12, is supported in a horizontal position above the frame 6, in a manner presently described.
On the frame 6, near the other end or its inner end are leg bearings 13, in which is journaled the driving shaft 12, which also is journaled in the housing 14:, provided at the upper end of the pillow block 8, and this housing encloses the reducing mechanism between the driving and driven shafts.
Secured in any suitable manner to one of the leg bearings 13, is a power unit or engine 15, either of the air, steam, electric or water type, which is connected with the driving shaft 12, so that power can be im parted thereto and transmitted through the driven shaft 9, by the reducing mechanism to a pinion 16, meshing with the gear '5, thus the crane will be moved or turned in a fixed radius to the position desired.
The crane column 7 has a boom brace 17 rigidly fixed thereto, and it is to be understood that the crane proper may be of any approved type, this being also true with regard to the power unit.
Interposed with the driving shaft 12, is a coupling or clutch 18, of an permitted construction and can be manipu ated in any suitable manner, so that the power unit can be thrown into and out of action with said drivingisha'ft 12, at the will ofthe operator.
What is claimed is:
In a device of the character described, a circular shaped base having: peripheral gear teeth, a column rising vertically-from the base and journaled at its lower end centrally therein, a boom brace fixed to one side of said column and extending angularly outwardly therefroimnabottom sill secured to and crossing the column, bearings rising tromthesill near one end thereoflasplit bearing on the other. end of said sill, avertical shaft journaled in the split bearing and having-apinion meshing-With the gear teeth on the base,va two-part. driving shaft journaled in said bearings and 'having a worm screw, a worm gear on the vertical shaft, a two-part housing depending from the boom brace and encasing the worm screw and gear, a motor connected with the driving shaft, and aclutch between the two parts of the driving shaft.
