JOSEPH NADWOKI, F BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
CIGAR CABINET.
Application filed August 10, 1923. Serial No. 656,634.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, Josnrrr NADwooKr, a citizen of Poland, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York,
have invented a new and Improved Cigar Cabinet, of which the following is a'description.
My invention relates to a cigar cabinet and particularly to a cabinet having means for ej ecting or delivering the cigars in single succession through the top of the cabinet.
The general object of my invention is to provide a novel assemblage of ejector and actuating and controlling means therefor as well as to provide a latching device in association with a cover at the slot through which the cigars are ejected and coordinated with the ejector plunger to insure that the cigars may .not be surreptitiously withdrawn from the cabinet while the plunger is away from the delivery slot.
The manner and means whereby the above and other objects are attained, will clearly appear as the description proce-eds.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a. part of this specification, it being understood that the drawings are merely illustrative of one example of the invention. 4
Figure 1 is a vertical section mainly in the plane indicated by the line 1--1Figure 3, parts being broken away;
Figure 2 is a vertical section on the line 2-2, Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a plan view with the top removed;
Figure 4f is a side elevation through the cabinet approximately in the plane of the line 1---1. Figure 3, but showing the cam and latch devices. the devices shown in elevation in Figure 4; being partly or wholly omitted from the view, Figure 1;
Figure 5 is a detail in vertical section given to show the cover fasteningl means, the
eryiplunger 12 for selecting a single cigar A from the convergent bottom sections to deliver the same as indicated at a at a slot 14 in the hinged top 110 of the cabinet. At the bottom of the plunger are suitable stop means to limit the upward movement, there being shown separate transverse members 15.
The plunger is operated by the turning of a rock shaft 16 by any suitablehandle 17 at the exterior of the cabinet.
Vertical valves 18 are provided, spaced to present therebetween vertical guide slots 19 in which blocks 20 on the side edges of the delivery plunger 12 have movement. rlhe plunger 12 is formed in its lower part with separate slats 21 on the lower ends of which the stops 15 are provided. The shaft 16 near each end, between the cabinet walls and the partitions 18, is provided with curved cam arms 22 on whichrest rollers 23 on the plunger 12 outside of the guide blocks 20.
A coil spring 24: is fastened at one end as at 25 to the under side of one of the inclined bottom sections 11. and at its opposite end secured as at 26 to the shaft 16 so that the spring will be stressed by the manual turning of the shaft and the reaction of the spring will tend to restore the shaft and cam arms 22 for raising the plunger 12 by engagement of the cams against the rollers 23. The plunger 12 is depressed by turning the shaft 16 by its handle 17 in a dircctionto fde-, press cams 22 to the lower dotted line position indicated in Figure 1 to thus'permit the plunger to gravitate to a position for its upper concaved end to receive a single cigar A for carrying the same as shown in Figure 1 'to the slot 14.
A transverse rod 27 passes through vertical slots 29 in the plunger members 21 and has its ends bent twice at right angles to provide terminals 28 disposed beneath the cams 22, said rod thus'constituting a follower for the cams 22 in the up-and-down movements of the cams to controlV the same for preventing sudden movements being imparted to the cams to injure the cigars or cause displacement of the parts. A stop 30 is disposed in the path of one of the cams 22 to positively arrest the upward movement of the cams while the downward movement is 'arrested by the-ends of the cams striking the bottom of the cabinet.
In Figure 1 the uppermost dotted line position of the cam represents its ndrmal position but it is in dotted lines because it is disposedY behind the partition section 18. On the other hand the lowermost dot.- ted line position of the cam represents the cam when moved downward in the depression of the plunger 12.
A hinged cover 31 is provided for the delivery slot 14 and it is provided with a. catch hook 32 adapted when said closure is in the lowered position over the slot to pass through the auxiliary slot .33 at slot 14 and to be engaged by the vU.bend ofV alatch rod 35 rockably secured by staples` 185, to thetop edges of two opposite partition sections, 18.. At one end the latch rod 35 is formed with a lateral arm 36. disposed aboveI a lug 37 on the adjacent cam 22 so that in theV rising. of the cam the arm 36 will be engaged by the lug. 37 just as the cam reaches. its highest position so that aslightrocking .of the. rod 35 is pro duced sufficient. for the. bend 34 to be raised to the dotted line position shown in Figure 4 to release the catch 32 and allow.y clear.-
ance for the same to pass through the slotv 33 when'the closure 31 is raised.
At thev other; end of the latch rod 35 is ahlateral arm 38 adapted to pass beneath a lug, 39 on the adjacent cam. 22 at the extreme; upwardv movement of the cam.- for limiting the rocking movement of the latch,
Fastening :means is provided forthe cabinet cover 110 as follows: Staples 40 are provided on the. under side of said cover and are adapted .to receive the endsof fastener` bolts41 moving in oppositedirections through theV partitions 18. The adjacent ends of the bolts .41 are secured to, opposite ends of a head 42 on the spindle 43 extending outwardlythrough the adjacent sideof the cabinet 10 and providedzwith a handle 44 to be grippedbetween the fingers so that the spindle 43 may?y be turned. to withdraw the bolts 41 from-the, keepers 40. The bolts 41 have slots 46 through which screws 45 pass into thel adjacent. vside `of the cabinet to give guided movement. to the bolts. A housing. or casingv 47 is provided for the adjacent ends of the bolts 41 and the head 42 and a spring 48 secured to saidV casing. bears against the inner. end of one bolt 41, thereby tending. to operate thebolt. for yshooting' the bolts 41 into the keepers 40.
I would state in conclusion that while the illustrated example constitutes a praw tical embodiment of my invention, l do not limit myself strictly to the exact details herein illustrated, since, manifestly, the saine can be considerably varied without departure-from the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, l claim:
1. A merchandise cabinet, a vertically operating` plunger to deliver the cigars as required, said cabinetv having a slot at the top thereof to which the plunger is movable on the delivery movement, a closure for said slot, latch means for said closure, and controlling means for said latch means subject to the movements. of the plunger to andfrom the slot.
2. A cigar cabinet having support for the cigars, a plunger operating through said support to deliver the. cigars as required, means. to raise and lower saidr plunger, said cabinet. having a slot. in the top to which the plunger delivers the cigars, a lift closure for said slot, acatch on said closure adapted to pass into the cabinet when the closure is in the lowered position, and latch meansto engage `said, catch, said laichimeans comprisinga rock-shaft having. a member to engage said catch, and an arm on the rock shaftengageable by the. plunger in its upward movementy to urock the shaft` and release the catch.
3. A cigar cabinet having supportv for the, cigars, a plunger operating through said support to deliver the cigars as required, means to raisevand lowerv said1 plunger, said cabinet having a slot in the top to which the plunger delivers the. cigars, a lift closure for said slot, a catch on said closure adapted to pass intothe cabinet when the closure: is in the lowered. position, and latch means to engage said catch, said latch means comprising. a rock, shaft having a member to engage said catch, and an arm on the rock shaftengageable by the plunger in its upward movement to rock the shaft and release the catch.; together'. with a .second arm on said latch. shaft, and a member on the plunger to be engaged by the second mentioned arm to limit they rocking movement of the latchshaft.
