Description
H. D. BOSS.
n Sk-ewer-Extraqturs.
"No.lLlQJHS, V PatentedApr|4,1874.
UNITED STATES Prrrniv'r OFFICE.
HENRY D. BOSS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IM PROVEMENT IN SKEWER-EXTRACTORS.
Specification forming part of Letters PatentNO. 149,7! 3, dated April 14, 1574; application filed March 10, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY `eD. Boss, oi' the city, county, and State oi' New York, have invented a new and Improved Skewer EX- tractor; and that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon inaking a part of this specification.
This invention'has for its object an implement for extracting skewers from meats, Src.,
when placed on the table for consumption,
and the invention consists in a skewer-extractor, constructed with an annular opening, said opening having reverse beveled edges, as hereinafter described. l
In the accompanying sheet of drawings, Figure l is a side elevation of my invention; and Fig. 2 a cross section taken in line x, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts in the several gures.
The unpleasant ditliculty of iinding beef, fowls, &c., when placed on thetable, trussed up with skewers, which not only interfere with the carving, but are unsightly in appearance, is well-known, as is also the difficulty in extracting the skewers without soiling the iingers. B y umyinvention these difficulties are fully obviated, my device consisting of a shank, A,
' formed of steel or other suitable material, and
having formed upon its outer end a ring, B.
rIhis ring has its upper rear side a beveled to a sharp edge, and its lower front side b beveled in a like manner. rlhe rear end of the shank A may be provided with a tang, c, by which it is secured to a handle, O.
My skewer-extractor, constructed substantially as above described, is operated by passing the ring or circular opening B over the end of a skewer, and then by bearing down or up on the handle O the beveled edges a and b are brought tightly against the upper and lower sides of the skewer, biting it with their edges, so that when. the extractor is drawn outward in this position, the skewer is forced to come with it.
Instead of making the extractor a separate implement, it may bev fitted to the carvingknive or fork, or to the reverse end of the steel, or it'may be combined with such instruments in any desirable manner, as by hin gin g it to the same.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The herein-described implement, constructed with an annular opening, having sharp beveled edges for extracting skewers, as a new article ot manufacture.
4 HENRY D. BOSS.
