Description
J. J. NlcHoLsQN HEATING DEVICE original Filed June .19, 1920 Patented June 3, i924.
STATS JAMES J. NICHOLSON, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
HEATING DEVICE.
Application led June 19, 1920, Serial No.'3r90,292. Renewed November 2,` 1923.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES J. NICHOLSON, a citizen of Denmark, and a resident of Detroit, county oi IVayne, and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Heating Devices, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a device for warming glasses and various other drink receptacles, by the transmission of heat from hot water held in a container suited to receive and envelope the receptacles.
A further object is to provide such a container with meanswhereby it may be conveniently manipulated and filled or emptied of the heating medium employed in an easy manner.
These objects are attained by the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawing, forming part of this application, and in which Figure l is a vertical sectional view of the invention as applied to a drinking glass.
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 1 -4c of Fig. l.
In the drawing, a conventional type of drinking glass is designated by the numeral 30 and resting on its upper edge is a disc 3l joining a cylinder 32, circumjacent to which is another cylinder 34 having a top 33 parallel to the disc 3l the space 35 therebetween comnninicating` with the annular space 36 between the cylinders 32 and 34, this space being adapted to receive hot water supplied through an opening in the top 33, normally closed by the threaded knob 37.
Besides acting as a plug for the inlet opening the knob is used to manipulate the heater, which is provided with an outlet 38,
in the lower part of the cylinder 34C and which is provided with a plug or stopper 39.
Fixed at opposite points to the interior of the cylinder 3Q, are light flat springs el-l adapted to engage and center the heater upon the glass, the springs being so arranged as to permit the free removal or replacement of the glass within the heater, which has a closed bottom 42 extending between the cylinders forming a water tight chamber.
From the foregoing it will be seen that an effective device for warminga drinking receptacle has been described and that the same is capable of easy application and practical use.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A device for modifying the temperature of drinking glasses,'comprising'a hollow cylindrical receptacle having spaced inner and outer walls, and a hollow head cornbined therewith, the space between the walls being adapted to contain liquid, said receptacle being engageable circumjacent the drinking glass upon which the head may rest, an inlet in said head, an outlet in the lower outer wall, and means in said head for manipulating the receptacle.
Q. A warming device comprising a cylinder having spaced walls, a hollow head combined therewith, a removable knob in said head act-ing as a plug for the inlet, a removable plug in the side of said cylinder acting as an outlet, and resilient means interiorly of said cylinder adapted to engage with the exterior of an article to be heated.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification. c
JAMES J. NICHOLSON.
