From body of terminal proper 2 (Figs. l, 95 2 and 3) at its outer end protrudes a small boss 5 (Figs. 1 and 3) that is connected to supply pressure pipe by threads, as shown, or that may be closed by a suitable cap or stopper; and, at center of this boss 10o 5 (Figs. l and 3) is a hole 6 (Figs. l, 2 and 3) that connects at its inner end to space 8 (Fig. l) of tube that is to be filled with space et (Figs. 1, 2 and 3) under pressure by fluide As the fluid enters space 8 (Fig. l) of tube through hole 6 (Figs. l. 2 and 3) and rises in pressure, it enters another hole 7 (Figs. l, 2 and 3) and fills up space 4 (Figs l, 2 and 3) with a pressure equal to that in space 8 (Fig. l) thus forcing out slide ring or rings, or gripper or grippers, 3 (Figs. l, 2 and 3) against the tube, which ring or rings, or gripper or gripper-s 3 (Figs. l, 2 and 3) thus become homogeneous with the wall or walls of the said tube l (Figs. l and 2), and thus prevent the fluid and the terminal or device to slide out.
Terminal 2 (Figs. l., 2 and 3) may or may not have a nose or rod 9 (Fig. l), extending into space 8 (Fig.v l) so as to reduce the amount of fluid that is to fill space 8 (Fig. l). Said rod 9 (Fig. l) may be cut up in several pieces forming a row of small rods one in front of the other for facility of handling. Said rod 9 (Fig. l) may or may not be terminals if such are used.
l/Vhen pressure in space 8 (Fig. l) is released, pressure in space l (Figs. l, 2 and B) is also released thus allowing slide ring or rings, or gripper or grippers, 3 (Figs. l, 2 and 3) to spring back and terminal or device to be easily removed if so desired or placed at some other point in tube.
Tube or tubes, or hollow metal bodies, auto-internal-forged with said terminal are and can be used for medical, surgical, dental, commercial and ordnance purposes.
Although l have shown one specific design for terminals and their tubes, in their simultaneous process of auto-internal-forging, in the figures, yet I wish it understood that I do not restrict myself thereby to any specific dimensions or details.
Tubes or hollow metal bodies and their terminal or terminals, auto-internalforged, come under one of those instances where an article or object as a whole is defined by the method of making it, it being almost inn possible to satisfactorilyv define it in any other way. It is for the above reason that, having described my invention in annexed specifications, I set forth my claims in terms of the structure itself as a whole, and, in
terms of the methoc practised in producing that structure.
The claims are intended lo cover and do cover only the saine subject matter of my invention of terminals and their tubes simu|- ianeously auto-internal-forged, which l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, viz:
l. A device for auto-internal-forging by fluid pressure, consisting of a terminal and its gripper on its recessed peripheral surface, said terminal being adapted to lit closely within its tube, and being provided with means whereby .fluid pressure may be passed through the terminal from the outer to the inner end thereof, and also with means whereby said fluid pressure may be passed from said inner end to said gripper to operate it to grip and become an homogeneous part of the wall of the tube to secure the whole in position.
2. device for auto-internafl-forging by fluid pressure, consisting of a terminal and its grippers (in tandem) on its recessed peripheral. surface, said terminal being adapted to lit closely within its tube, and being provided with means whereby fluid pressure may be passed through the terminal from the outer to the inner end thereof, and also with means whereby said fluid pressure may be passed from said inner end to said grippers to operate them to grip and become homogeneous parts of the wall of the tube to secure the whole in position.
3. A device for auto-internal-forging by fluid pressure, consisting of a terminal and its grippers (in tandem) on its several recessed peripheral surfaces, said terminal being adapted to fit closely within its tube, and being provided with means whereby' fluid pressure may be passed through the terminal from the outei` to the inner end thereof, and also with means whereby said fluid pressure may he passed from said inner end to said grippers to operate them to grip and become homogeneous parts of the wall of the tube to secure the whole in position.
