JOSEPH E. LARSON, 0F
To all whom t may caf/wem.'
Be it knownr that I, J OSEPIIE.A LARsoN, a citizen of the United. States, residing at Clarks, in the county ,of Merrick and State of Nebraska, have inventedcertain new and useful Improvements ina Cooling System for Internal-Combustion Engines; andI d0 declare the following to be 'a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to an improved cooling systemfor internal combustion engines and will be principally used in'connection with an engine forming a portion of al tractor ysuch as is used for drawingagricultural implements across a field or forurunning threshing machines.
One object of th inventiodnis toprovide this cooling .systemvwith i1np1 'ovedtypeI of water cooling'and reservoir meanswhich will includev aireservoir 'tank .from which the water'may .be drawn to cool the, motor, and
means for causingwaterwhich enters the' tankto lpass downwardly vto the .main body" of watertherein in theform. of small streams whichwill pass through a cold air .blast and..
thus be cooled.V

through l,this opening intothe tank `land caused topass longitudinally 4throughthe' tanky atfabout the normal water level andV thus'4 the water passing," into .the tank cooled and the vmain,` body vof water in Vthe tank kept'cool.
Another 'object of the invention is toso construct this tank that itmay beprovided with. a neck extension providingan outlet for the air, which passesthrough the tank and Vresemblingthe sin'oke stack of a steam t tractor engine.
construct` this cooling, system" that the vven` haust .pipe ofthe `motor may be 4extended into the stack ofthe water tankfand thus v the exhaust port serve to create al suction in this .tank s0 that; rvhe passage Ofair through the tank will be assisted. Y'
' obj ectjfof the invention 'is YVto,` 'so construct this cooling" systemthatv rwhen the mais? and rf/Swank at@ @itis ale'fen@ KNOEBEL, or ,HavENs iEBaAsKA.

Figure 1 is a view showing the tractor in longitudinal section kand Yprovided with an internal combustion motor 'having the improved'cooling system. Figure "s a vertical `sectional view taken along "the yline `2f-2 off Fig. 1.

These -wheels B are rotated from Ithe ,internal combustion motor `M and will beprovided with a, conventional structureof ycarbureter to'which leadsa pipe P so that` gasoline in the VforwardV compartment of the tank li'i'naybe ,fed to thecarbureter. A partition 2v is provided in this tank and divides "theV tank intona` Vforward compartment to receive the gasoline through the illthe motor and i ing neck 'Scand-ia rear compartment to receive "oil throughthelli-ng neck 4. The main body of waterf will be cooled in this manner and as it passes out through the pipe 12 and moves inwardly to the 13, it will be further cooled.V- This watercooling system will thus serve to cool the water in a Very eective mannen I claim: 5"
1. A water storing and cooling tank for use in a cooling system for a water cooled motor, said tank having an air inlet in one end and an air outlet in its other end"` and having lits upper portion provided a 1 water inlet intermediate the air inletand outlet whereby water passing from the inlet to a main body of wateriin` the tank may be engaged and broken up by ya blast of cooling' air passing through the tank above thej main body of water, a fan housing at thef'end of the tank and having a head providedwith an air inlet opening, a bearing carried the tank within the housingfa bearing bracket carried by the housing and having a bearing opposite the bearing within the housing, a fan shaft extending throu h the opening of the housing and journale'" in the bearings, a fan carried by the shaft within the housing, and means permitting rotation of the yfan shaft. v I
2. The structure of claim 1 and a. pan in the housing extendingbetween the air inlet and outlet and beneath the water inlet and provided with a plurality of perforations whereby water passing through the water inlet may be caughtflin the pan and pass through the perforations thereof as a.
vpkliirality of relatively fine streams.
3."`The structure of claim`1 and a pan in thehousing extending between the air inlet and outlet and beneath the water inlet and provided with a plurality of perforations whereby water passing through the water iinlet may be caughtglin the pan and pass through the perforations thereof as a plurality of relatively fine. streams, the end portion of the pan adjacent the air inlet being inclined to provide anl air deflecting surface for directing air downwardly beneath the pan, and an air directing plate extending :from the head ofthe tank below the air inlet and `downwardly inclined.
In testimony whereofv I have yhereunto set my hand.
