Description

` May 20,1924. 1,494,673 I J. L. DUNNOCK ooooooooooo RE Patented May 20, 1924.
JOHN L. ZD'UN'N'OCK,v OIi BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
BOTTLE CLOSURE.
IApplication tiled April 3, 1923. Serial No. 629,691.
To all 'whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, JOHN L. DUNNOCK, .a citizen of the United States, residing-at Baltimore city, State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle Closures, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to bottles designed primarily for use in connection with caps or closures such as shown, for example in Patent 1,169,938 issued to Ine on February 1st, 1916. These caps have spaced internal 4ribs between slits in the walls of the caps adapted to engage annular shoulders on the bottles to which the caps are applied. Some diiiiculty has been experienced in removingI these caps from the bottles and an object o this invention is to so construct a bottle that, by rotating the cap on the bottle neck, the ribs on the cap will be pressed outwardly from under the annular shoulder engaged thereby. Thus the cap is released and can be removed readily from the bottle without the use of a tool.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction which willbe hereinafter more fully described and point- Figure 1 is an elevation of a bottle haw' -ing the present improvements, a cap being shown in section thereon.
Figure 2 is a section Online 2 2, Figure 1. Y
Referring to the figures by characters of reference, 1 designates a bottle neck having ed out in the claims, it being understood an annular groove 2 forming a shoulder 3. rlhe groove is vintersected by deiecting cams 4 formed integral with the bottle neck, each cam being provided at one side with a radial shoulder 5 While its other side is substantially tangent to the inner Wall of the groove and constitutes a deflecting surface,
as shown at 6.
The cap to be used with the bottle has been shown at 7 and has slits 8 arranged in pairs in the Wall 9 thereof. rllhe metal between the slits of each pair is oset inwardly to form ribs 10 and these are adapted to be snapped groove 2 at points ast the shoulder 3 into tween the cams. When of the circumference of the neck and a portion of each cam being Hush with the edge of the shoulder.
2. l he combination with a bottle cap having an annular shoulder provided with inwardly projecting shoulder engaging ribs; of a bottle having an annular groove orming a shoulder beneath which said ribs engage, and cams in said groove extending in the direction of the circumference of the neck and each having a portion arranged to lift a respective rib to a1 level with the surface of the neck aboye the oove.
ln testimony whereof ture.
ax my signa- JOHN L. DUNNGCK.
