PORTIRE ROD R FIXTURE.
Application led November 23, 1922. ySerial No. 602,903.
. character including a supporting element or rail for drape carriers and other operating parts, wherein the sheave carriers included in the operating parts are easily and quickly detachably and adjustably mounted on said rod or fixture in the most desirable position with respect to the drape carriers from the standpoint of operating etiicienc-y and with respect to visibility.
rlthe invention has'reference more particularly to portire/,rods or fixtures of the hollow tubular longitudinally slotted type presenting a fiat wall opposite the slotted wall and generally known as C-shaped in cross-section, though it may obviously be applied to other types of curtain rods without departing from thel invention.
ln the accompa'nying'drawings illustrating suitable embodiments of the invention- Fig. 1 is a perspective View of a portiere rod or fixture equipped with operating mechanism and drape carriers constructed in accordance with the invention;
Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same showing in greater detail the sheave carriers constituting a part oit' the structure;
Fig. 3 is a sectionalview ot the same on the line 3-3 ot Fig. 2; and
Fig. 4 is a horizontal section of the same on the line 4 4 of Fig. Q1.
Referring now to the drawings, A indicates a rod of the type above referred to which has a rear face equipped with a longitudinal slot B, the edges bordering which constitute rails C) on which the drapery carriers D are adapted to travel and are guided in travel. Each of said drapery carriers D includes a middle portion or carrier E suitably formed or constructed to engage and ride upon the rails G and each is equipped with a projection F to which the pullstrings for eii'ecting travel of said carriers which the drapery is adapted to he secured,
are adapted to be attached. Said dra ery carriers D further include projections ir to said projections being adapted to be formed or bent as desired in order that the drapery may hang from either face of the rod.
The rod per se may be supported similarlyto the rod A illustrated in the com-- panlon application, led ofeven date here! with` bearing Serial Number 602,901. or may be otherwise supported at its ends, an end portion of a corner member H corresponding to one of the corner members C of said companion application being indicated at the right-hand end of the rod shown in Fig. 1 herein.
The invention has more particular reference to sheave carriers adapted to be associated with the rod A and held at any desired point between the ends of and in any desired position relatively to the rod A. As shown in the drawings, the sheave carriers each comprises a middle portion or plate l, provided on opposite side edges with flanges K which are parallel with each other, the width and length respectively of the fianges l( being changed or varied to adapt the same to supportone or two sheaves as the case may be. The sheaves L are rotatably mounted between the end portions of the flanges and in an suit-able manner to permit them torotate reely.
One of the Hanges K of a pair thereof is provided with a relatively large opening M contiguous to the middle portion l thereof and in the opposite fiange there is a smaller opening for the passage of the shankot' a set-screw N shown in Figs. 3 and` 4, the head of which is opposed to the opening M, so that it may be engaged by a screw-driver passed through the latter. Said shank of said set-screw N is adapted to engage in the threaded opening in a plate or into O which is of greater width than the distance be-v tween the edges of thel flanges bordering the longitudinal slot in the rod and is adapted to lie within the rod so that upon turning said set-screw in. one Idirection the said flanges of the rod will he clamped between said plate or into (l and the adjacent .flange K of the sheave carrier. The latter is frotatable relatively to said plate or into O about the set-screw N as an axis so that Said ianges K may be disposed at any de.- Sired angle relatively to the '.rod, as exemplified in Figs. 1 and 2 and indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 2.
The said sheave. carriers are thus obvious- 1y associated with and dissassociated from p the rod and readily adjusted in position relatively'to the same to the end that the pullstrings P and Q trained over sa-id sheaves may be maintained out of Contact with each other and in the best position to effect eilicient"operation of the drapf.. ry carriers D. The position of the sheave carriers with respeet to the rod is preferably such as to lcause them to be completely or almost completely hidden behind the rod, this being obviouslyl desirable, and at the same time to permit the sheaves to be relatively so disposed as to render the pull-strings similarly invisible from the front fiat face of the rod.
While the invention may be'varied in its embodiment 1n speclc details of construction, it will be obvious that such changes.
and variations as may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention and4 fall clearly within the scope of the appended claims are included in the invention.
I claim as my invention:
1.A A drapery fixture of the kind specified, including `a longitudinally slotted tube. a carrier for'one or more sheaves, a member associa'ted with said carrier adapted to be disposed Within the tube for engaging the portions of the Walls' thereof bordering the lslot therein, and a set-screw connecting said member with said carrier for clamping said portlons of the walls of the tube between the carrier and said member, sheaves on said shaped in cross-section adapted t0 be mounted parallel with -a window casing or 'the like with its slotted face opposing the latter, a plurality of carriers for draperies longitudinally movable relatively to the tube and projecting 'from the slotted face of the latter, a carrier for sheaves adapted to be rotatably mounted on the slotted face of the tube, a member mounted within the tube, a set-screw connecting the same "with said carrier, the slotted wall of the tube adapted to be clamped between said member and said carrier and the latter adapted to be rigidly held'in any desire'd position at any desired point on ,the tube when said setscrew is rotated to effect said' clamping, sheaves on said carrier rotatable on axes parallel with that of said set-screw, and pull-strings associated with said sheave carrier and said draper carriers.
