This inventicn relates to certain' improvements in mechanism for delivering folded It is the especial object of the "resent invention to provide an improved f rwarding and delivering mechanism for' delivering products from a plurality of foldin' mecha-' om the folders as, or instance, the mailing roomof a newspaper or eriodical, the from' the folders ein forward simultaneously to one side o the folding mecha-. nisms and in the same relative position, that is, for instance, with the head of the products always on top as they are forwarded.

In the arrangement illustrated there s by side and the products in the particular instance illustrated are formed by cutting sheets from a web, and folding and collecting these cut s'heets. These folders are arranged to deliver the products to the same side, that is, to the'left, as shown in Fig. 1, so that the products from both folders will be dropped from the flies 8,-8' in the samerelative position, that is, with the heads of the pericdicals on top 'and in advancer This construction permts the use of a single treme work on one side of 'the folders for supporting the parte hereinatter reterred to, thue providing a cheap construction, and furthermore the products come from both the dies in the same reiativepositon and can be waed' by cne operator.
In accordance with the mventon, means rea are provided for forwarg the ppoducte m paths run from the folders in superposed position to the point where the separation of the products is desired, at which point the sheet paths arc separated and the products delivered to further forwarding' means for final delivery. lVhile these sheet paths may be of various character, in the particular Construction they are in the form of wires or tapes, and the run and arrangement of these wires or tapes, which form an important feature of the invention, will now be described.
In the arrangement shown the product `from each delivery is forwarded by, and in control of two sets of wires or tapes, and to e'lect this there are provided five sets of wires or tapes which control the folded I products 'as they are forwarded, these wires being designated by the numerals 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13. These sets of wires are arranged so that during a portion of their travel certain of the sets run in a plane above that of the others, so that the products are taken between two sets of wires and controlled as they are forwarded, the wires being spaced from each other sidewise so as to permit of return without in terference.
In the arrangement illustrated the set marked 9 runs between guide rollers 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20, the rollers 14, 15 and 20 being arranged at or near the folders in the press room, and the rollers 16, 17, 18 and 19 being arranged at a point remote from the press room, as the mailing room, for instance, of a newspaper or periodical.
The set of wires or tapes 10, which. if desired, may act to further forward the product, pass over the guide rolls 17 before referred to and a roll 21, this set of tapes being arranged at a point remote from the folders and forming in the Construction illustrated the final delivery of the products from one of the folders. The set of wires or tapes 11 run between guide rolls 22, 23. the rolls 15 and 16 before referred to, a roll 24 and over pulleys 25, 26. The roll 22 is positioned so that the wires or tapes 11 will pass under the outside fly delivery which, in the .particular construction illustrated, is' the fly delivery 8'.
The set of wires or tapes 12 lie outside the sets 9 and-11, as shown in Fig. 2, and I pass under a roll 27 arranged between the two deliveries and in a plane above the rollers 22, 23 before referred to. From the roller 27 the wires or tapes 12 pass under the roll 15, to and over the rolls 16 and 17 before referred to, and around pulleys 28, 29, 30 and 31 (see Fig. 6), over pulleys 32, under pulleys 33 (see Fig. 1), around the transfer pulleys 34, 35, 36 and 37 (see Fig. 3) and back to the roller 27.
The set of wires or tapes 13 extend centrally of the several sets but on the same plane with the set 12. The run of this set of wires or tapes is under the rollers 27, 15 and ovcr the rollers 16, 17 before referred to, around transfer pulleys 38, 39,
40 and 41 over pulleys 42 (see Fig. 5) under pulleys 43 (see Fig. 2) and around transfer pulleys 44, 45, 46 and 47 (see Figs. 1 and 3), back over the roll 27.
In folding products with this arrangement, as the product is delivered from the fan 8', it will lie on and be carried by the wires or belts 11, being forwarded by these wires and caused to pass under the roll 27, whereupon these products will be controlled by the wires or .belts 11 beneath the products and the wires or belts 12, 13 above the products until they reach the roller 16, at which point the wires or belts 12, 13 leave them and the product is forwarded to the left by the wires or belts 11, from which point it may be taken ofi' the wires by the operator. When the product is delivered from the fly 8 it will fall on and be supported by the upper surfaces of the `wires or tapes 12, 13 and will be forwarded by them to a point where these wires or tapes pass under the roll 14 whereupon the product will be forwarded between the set' of wires or tapes 9 and the sets 12, 13, and
after passing the roll 17 it will be' forwarded by wires or tapes 10, 12 and 13 to the point where the wires or tapes 12, 13 passing ,over the transfer pulleys 28, 38 are diverted, and the product is forwarded by the wires or tapes 10, from which it may be taken by an operator.
The rolls and pulleys over and around which the wires or tapes pass are supported on shafts suitably mounted in frames of any desired character, not shown as not necessary to an understanding of the invention.
With the Construction and arrangement as described, therefore, the products may be simultaneously delivered from the folders to any desired point and at such point automatically separated for separate delivery. The products are all forwarded in the same alignment wth the head on top, and a simple and cheap Construction is efi'ected.
While the invention has been illustrated as forwarding the products to a point very lil mesme remote from the folders, as a mailing room, it will be understood that the tapes may be arranged to deliver the products at any desired point, and the invention is not to be restricted to the precise Construction and arrangement shown, and it will be understood that other arrangements may be made within the scope of theinvention as defined in the clams annexed hereto.
What is claimed is:
1. The combination with a plurality of folders, of means moving in the same general direction from each folder for simultaneously forwarding products to a point remote from the folders, and means for sepa rating the forwarded products at that point.
2. ,The combination with a plurality' of folders, of means moving in the same general direction from each folder for simultaneously forwarding products away from the folders in the same position, means for separating the products from each folder at a point remote therefrom, and a final delivery for the separated products.
3. The combination with a plurality of folders, of a plurality of superposed sheet paths extending in the same general direction from each folder located at one side ther-cof for simultaneously forwarding products away from the folders, and means for separating the sheet paths at a point remote from the folders for separating the forwarded products. r
4. The combination with a plurality of, folders, of a plurality of superposed sheet paths extending in the same eneral direction from each folder locate at one side thereof for simultaneousl forwarding products away from the fol ers, means for separating the sheet paths at different points remote from the folders for separating the forwarded products, and a final delivery for the separated products.
5. The comhination with a pair of folders, of a plurality of sets of tapes moving in the same general direction from each folder, guides for guiding the tapes to cause them to simultaneously forward products from both folders, guides for causing the tapes to separate for separating the forwarded products, and gudes for returning the tapes totheir initial position.
6. The combination With a plurality of folders, of a plurality of superposed sheet paths extending in the same general direction from each folder for simultaneously forwarding products from one side of the folders to a point remote therefrom.
7. The combination with a plurality of folders, a plnrality of superposed sheet paths extending in the same general direction from each folder for simultaneously forwarding products from one side of the folders to a point remote therefrom, means for separating the sheet paths at the remote point for separating the products, and a final delivery for the separated products.
8. The comhination with a plurality of folders, of means moving in the same general direction from each folder for simultaneously forwarding products to a point remote from the folders and for then separating them, and a final delivery for the separated products.
9. The combination with a pair of folders arranged side hy side, of means for simultaneously forwarding the products from one side of both folders in the same relative position to a point remote from the folders and forthen separating the products.
10. The comhination with a pair of folders arranged side by side, of means for simultaneously forwarding the products from one side of both folders in the same relative position to a point remote from the folders and for then separating the products, and a final delivery for the separate products.
