IMPROVEMENT IN PAINTERS PAILS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 149,407, dated April 7, 1874; application tiled March 21, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, FEANcis O. LANDON, JosrAH SMITH, and JAMES H. FLOOD, of Southold, in the county of Suffolk and State of New York, have invented a newand useful Improvement in Painters Iail, of which the following is a specification:
Figure lis a vertical section of our improved painters pail, taken through the line :I: a', Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section ot' the same,
Y taken through the line y y, Fig. l.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
' Our invention has for its object to furnish an improved painters pail, which shall be so constructed as to enable the painter to take up the ladder with him paints of two or more dierent colors, and a large and a small brush foreach color, with the same facility that he now takes paint of a single color.
The invention consists in the combination of the frame consisting of the bottom plate or dish,s the perforated top plate, the connecting bars, and tube, the plate or spider, the bolt, the cross-bar, the bail, and the hook with each other, to adapt the device to receive two or more paint-buckets; and in the saucers, in combination with the bottom plate or dish,
and with the holes in the top plate to receive the drip of the paint-brushes, as hereinafter fully described.
A B O D is the frame, which consists of a -circular plate, A, having a narrow rim or iiange around its edge, upon which plate the bottoms ot' the paint-bucket E stand; a circular plate, B, having two or more holes `formed in it ot' such a size that the paint-buckets E may be placed in them, with their bottoms resting up- Onthe plate or dish B, and their tops project1 ing above the said plate B; the bars O, that connect the edges ofthe said plates AB to each other 5 and the tube D, connecting their centers. tube D and through the centers of the plates A B, and has a plate or spider attached to its lower end for the Jframe A B O D to rest upon. The upper end of the bolt F passes through a F is a bolt, that passes up through the cross-bar, Il, and is provided with a washer and nut to secure it in place. The ends of the cross-bar H are bent upward, and have holes formed through them to serve as ears to receive the ends of the bail I. Upon the center of thebail I is formed a loop or eye to receive the hook J, to hook upon the rounds of the ladder, and thus support the pail.
By this construction any desired bucket, E, can be turned toward the operator, according as he may wish to use paint of one or another color. K are saucers, which are so formed as to lit into the spaces in the dish A between the buckets E and the rim of the said dish A, as shown in Fig. 2, to receive the drip from the brushes, the handles of which are inserted in holes b in the plate B, directly above the said saucers K. Two holes, b', are formed in the plate B above each. saucer K, for a large and a small brush. One end of one of the saucers K has a space partitioned off, as shown in Fig. 2, to form a receptacle for putty.
Vith this device it is not necessary for a painter to descend the ladder every time he wishes to use paint of another color, or to change brushes. l
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination of the frame consisting of the plate or dish A, the plate B, the bars O, and the tube D, the plate or spider G, the bolt F, the cross bar I-I, the bail I, and the hook J with each other, to adapt the device t) receive two or more paint-buckets, substantially as herein shown and described.'
2. The saucers K, in combination with the plate or dish A, and with the holes in the plate B, to receive the drip of the paint-brushes, substantially as hereinvshown and described.
FRANCIS O. LANDON. JOSIAH SMITH. JAMES II. FLOOD.
