Description
UNITED STATES PATENT Orrron ABNER B. HUTOHINS, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN PORTABLE FEATHER-RENOVATORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 149,403, dated April 7, 1874; application filed March 7, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ABNER B. HUTOHINS, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of N ew York, have invented a new and Improved Portable Feather-Renovator, of which the following is a specification:
The invention will first be fully described, and then pointed out in the claims.
Figure l is a longitudinal sectional elevation of my improved renovator, taken on the line 00 a; of Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on line 1 y of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is atransverse section on line 2 z of Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the steam-generator; B, the steamingcylinder; 0, perforated plate for distributing the steam throughout the mass of feathers contained in the cylinder 13 D, jacket surrounding the cylinder B, to confine the steam for drying off the feathers E, branch of steampipe, admitting steam into the steaming-cylinder; F, branch, admitting steam into jacket for drying the feathers after being steamed; Gr, door for opening the steaming-cylinder for putting in the feathers; H, flexible tube for discharging the feathers from cylinder B into the sack; I, doors for opening the end of the steaming-cylinder for adjusting tube H to discharge the feathers K and L, wastewater pipes; M, wheels for moving the apparatus,
and N, hood or cover over the generator.
The jacket D is arranged to form the bot tom, sides, and top of the truck-body; also, a protecting case for the steaming-cylinder.
The steanrpipes, are provided with cocks, controlling the steam so as to let it into the cylinder, first for steaming the feathers, and afterward into the jacket for drying them ofi.
The doors I and G will be fitted to close steam-tight.
The essential advantage of a portable feather-renovator is that the work can be done at the door, and in the presence of the customer, who may thus have assurance of the return of his own feathers; also, the whole quantity; and the cleaner will be relieved of any annoyance of mistrust and mistakes.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The'jacket D, constructed as described, and forming the top, sides, and bottom of truck, as well as a protecting-case for steamcylinder, in the manner set forth.
2. The flexible tube H, combined in the manner described, with a steam-cylinder, B, having the end doors I, for the purpose specified.
ABNER 13. HUTOHINS.
