To all whom it may concern: v

Be it known that I, JOHN C. G. HPEEL, of the city, county7 and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Device for Cleansing Bottles and Barrels, of which the following is a specification:

The accompanying drawing represents a vertical central section of my improved device i'or cleansing bottles and barrels.

The objectv of my invention is to expedite the process of cleansing bottles and barrels of all kinds, in such a manner that they are more easily and rapidly attended to, and considerable time and labor eeonomized thereby. My invention consists of a tubular standard, of suitable size, having a perforated cylindrical extension-tube, which is inserted into the bottle or barrel till the projecting stem of a conical valve at the base of the extension-tube is carried down by the pressure thereon, openingthe valve, and forcing the water instantly n through the perforations to the inside of the barrel. The pressure of the water closes the valve as soon as the object to be cleansed is raised from the valve-stem, and thereby the Supply cut off.

In the drawing, A represents the tubular standard, of suitable size, according as it is used for cleansing bottles, barrels, or other objects. Standard A is attached, by its base part, to a table, oor, or 4other support, and connected, by a rubber tube or hose, with the water-pipe for furnishing the necessary supply of water. A sleeve, B, is secured to standard A, and forms the connection with the cylindrical perforated extension-tube (l, which is screwed into or otherwise attached to its upper end. Sleeve B- is also provided with a valve-seat, a, for the inverted conical valve lD, whose stem B extends vertically through extension-tube C, and projects through a guide projection of the upper rounded-off end of the saine. A downward extension of stem b slides in guide-ring D of sleeve B, and defines the downward motion of the valve.

lhe pressure of the water on valve D forces the same` in upward direction against its seat a, and prevents thereby the water from entering into extension-tube C. When, however, a bottle or barrel is placed in inverted position over tube C, till the bottom or lower part of the. same strikes the-projecting end of the valvestem b, the valve is thereby carried down, adinitting the waterA into the tube C, and forcing it in all directions through the pert'orations onto the walls of the vessel. The bottle or barrel is then, by rotating it on the roundedoft' end of tube O, fully exposed to the action of the water thrown on its inside walls, and thoroughly cleansed thereby.

On removing the bottle or barrel, the valve closes again, till called into action by the next object carried over the tube to be cleaned.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The. device for cleansing bottles, barrels, and other vessels, consisting of the tubular stationary standard A, connected with the water-supply pipe, sleeve B, and perforated extension-tube G, with sliding stem-valve D, being constructed and operated in the manner described.
