Be it known that I, WILLIAM HARRY BRAsIn-R, a citizen of the United States, residing at Corpus Christi, in the county of Nueces and Stateof Texas, have invented a new and useful Lock Box, of which the following is a specification.
This invention aims to provide a simple means whereby it will be impossible for a person to remove a full vbottle of milk or the like from a receptacle without supplying an empty bottle, and whereby it will be impossible to remove the empty bottle withoutsupplying a yfull bottle, an equitable arrangement between thecustomer and the milk dealer thus being brought about, and a -full bottle of milk or the like being rendered reasonably secure against theft.
Itis within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to ywhich the invention appertains.
With the above vand other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combina tion and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter de? scribed and claimed, it being understood that, within the scope of ywhat is claimed changes in the precise embodiment of the invention shown can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.

A rod or support 19 is" mounted in the ends of the receptacle 1 and in the partition 2, and on the rod, vertically swinging latches 2O arev mounted, downward swinging movement of the latches being limited by a stop rod 21 carried by the partition 2. As shown best in Figure 5 a horizontal shaft 22 is mountedto rock in the front 3 of the partition 2 and in the member (Figure 3) of the partition. A detent 23 is secured to the forward end of the shaft and is adapted to overlap either of the doors 7 to hold either door closed. An arm 24 is secured to the rear end of the shaft 22 and swings in engagement with the connection 5 of the hollow partition 2. Along its longitudinal edges, the arm 24 is supplied with forwardly extended projections 25, which, operating with the partition 2, limit the swinging movement of the yarm 24 to the right or to the'left (Figure 4). The arm 24 has an arcuate opening 26, and there areseats 27' in the arm, `at the ends of thev opening. n j
Locking members 28, such as rods, are mounted yfor vertical rightl line reciprocation in the guides 6. At their lower ends, the locking rodsy 28 are supplied with lat# erally extended lingers 2.9 (Figure 4) extended beneath the arms or bottom portions '10 of the doors 7. At their upper ends, the
locking 4rods 28 are equipped 'with rearwardly extended projections 30 (Figure 3) operating in the arcuate opening 26 of the arm 24 and adapted to cooperate, one at a time, with the seats 27. rlie upper ends of the locking rods 28 are surrounded by helical compression springs 31 the upper ends of the springs abutting against the projections 30, and the lower ends of the springs abutting against the upper ends of the guides 6. f l l Suppose that both of the ydoors v.7 are closed, and that a bottle is held in one compartment by one of the hangers 14C as indicated in dot and dash line in Figures a and 5.` Suppose that the detent 23 overlaps the door 7 of the compartment wherein the bottle is located, as shown in Figure l. When the detent 23 is in the position shown in Figure 1, the arm 2e is in theposition depicted in Figure 4C, movement of the arm 24' to the right, in Figure 4 having been limited by the engagement between one projection 25 on the arm and the partition 2. The project-ion 30 on one locking rod 28 is alined with one of the seats 27, and the corresponding projection on the other locking rod is :received in the arcuate opening 26 of the arm, as shown in `Figure Ll, both of the rods 28 being heldin a lowered position, and the springs 3l being compressed, by the action of the arms 100i the doors 7 on the fingers 29 at the lower ends ofthe rods 28. The bottle has raised the latch 20ct the'compartment in whichthe bottle is located, but the latch 2O of the empty compartment has not been raised by the action of a bottle and lies in the path of the arm 2li. The result is that the shaft 22 cannot be rotated, and a person cannot move the detent from the locked position vof Figure l, open the door of the compartmentin which the bottle is located, and remove the bottle.
Suppose that a person opens the door 7 of the empty compartment to insert a bottle therein. I As soon as the door 7 of the empty compartment/is' opened, the arm l0 of that door no longer holds the corresponding rod 28 down, and the rod rises, under the action ,of its spring 21, the projection 300i: the said rod entering one seat 27 of the arm 24,' tl@ said seat being positioned for the reception y of the projection, as shown in Figure 4. What is claimed is l. In a device of the class described, a receptacle, bottlescarrying doors movably mounted on the receptacle, a detent adapted to engage either door to hold the same closed, a member movable on the receptacle and carv rying the detent, latches movable on the receptacle and cooperating with said member to hold the detent in locked position with respect to either door, the latches being so located that they may-be moved to released position by a bottle on either door, and locking means cooperating with said member to hold the detent in locked position with respect to either door7 each door comprising a part cooperating with one locking means to release the same as the door is closed.

In a device of the class described, a receptacle, bottlecarrying doors movably mounted on the receptacle, a detent adapted to engage either door to hold theV same closed, a-member movable on the receptacle and carrying the detent, latches movable on the receptacle and cooperating with said memberto holdv the detent in locked position with respect to either door, the latches being so located that they may be movedto released position by a bottle on either door, locking elements mounted for right line reciprocation on the receptacle, spring means cooperating with the locking elements to cause them to engage with said member, thereby to hold the detent in locked position, one of the doors embodying means for moving the latches to released position with respect to said member, when the doors are closed.
3.
