Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OEErcE.
HENRY YV. CLAPP, OF CONCORD, NEV HAMPSHIRE.
IMPROVEMENT IN GRATINGS FOR SEWER-INLETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 149,373, dated April 7. 1874; application filed July 12, 1873.
'Y To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY NV. CLArr, of Concord, in the county of Merrimack and State of New Hampshire, have invented certain Improvements in Base-Rin gs for Sewer- Inlets, of which the following is a specication, reference being had to the accompanying drawing:
The object of my invention is to provide a base-ring for and to be used in connection with my sewer-grating patented January 2l, 1873, which will permit the grating to be set so low down as not to obstruct the passage of a wheel.
Referring to the drawing, Figure 1 is an isometrical section, showing the shape of my base-rin g, one-half the rin gbeing supposed to be removed for the purpose of illustration. Fig. 2 is a section of the ring with the grating in place. Fig. 3 is a perspective drawing, show both the grating and ring.
My ring is provided with a shoulder at a, Figs. lv and 2, which receives the grate. A shoulder at b, Fig. 2, receives the curb around the inlet, and the portion of the rin g between the two shoulders is molded in the form shown in the drawings to give a passage for the water under the grating, as shown in Fig. 3. The grating may be secured to the base-ring by a bayonet-joint or other proper fastening.
I claim- 1. As an article of manufacture a base-ring for sewer-inlets having the shoulders c and b, and the molding o combined and arranged 'as and for the purposes above set forth.
2. The combination oi' the raised grating with the base-ring described.
Concord, June 2G, 1873.
HENRY lV. CLAPP.
