To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, KARL AUGUST LEE- MANN, residing at Essen, Germany,.a citizen of the German Republic, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Typewriters, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a typewriter which is fitted with a removable type basket, and which is distinguished by a particularly convenient mounting of the said type basket.
The invention will be described with reference to an example of the subject-matter of the invention shown in the accompanying drawing, in which:

In the frame A of the machine, indicated by dotted lines, rests the type basket C, which also contains the type levers B, on two studs a which are fixed to the frame A of the machine and which are embraced by the basket C by means of two wedge surfaces 0 and 0 of two hooks mounted at the same height on each side of the type basket C. This lattercan be turned about the concentric studs a and is removable therefrom.
A second double point of support for the type basket G is formed by two studs a which are likewise concentric and fixed on either side of the frame A of the machine. On each of these studs a bear, when the various parts are in the position shown in Fig. 1, i. e., when the machine is in the operative position, two locking levers D,
by means of a surface 0Z curved excentrically to their axis of rotation, said lock ing levers being rigidly connected to a shaft D rotatably mounted in the type basket C. The curvature of the surface 61 is such that when the machine is in the operative position and the locking lever D is rotated in a clockwise direction the distance of the axis of rotation of the locking lever D from the lines of contact of the surface d and of the stud a increases.
On each of the locking levers D is provided a sliding surface d which runs approximately rectangularly to the surface d Pivotally mounted on each locking lever D is a double-armed lever E E to one arm of which a spring F is attached. Under the action of the spring F the other, hookshaped arm E which is provided with an inclined surface 6 catches over the corresponding stud a and tends to rotate the corresponding lockinglever D in a clockwise direction. This rotation is limited by pins 0 which are provided on the type hasket C and project into the path of the arm E of the double-armed lever E E The arm E of each lever E E carries a projection 6 in the path of which lies the corresponding locking lever D.
On both sides of the type basket C are also provided two lugs 0 and c which are to be used as abutments when the levers D and E E are operated.
Finally there are also provided on the type basket C two stop'faces 0 which lie in the same plane and which, when the machine is in the operative position, each bear on a bolt a fixed to the frame A.
' When the type basketC is to be removed from the frame A, the latter is set upright on its bacln see Fig. 3. Pressure is then applied by the thumbs, using the lugs 0 as an abutment, to the arm Eof the lever E E and the latter is rotated, against the action of the springs F, in a counter-clockwise direction.
When so rotated the arms E are first brought into a position in which the studs a are no longer any hindrance to the conjoint rotation of the levers E E and D. Each of the projections 63 now strikes against the corresponding locking lever D, so that on the further rotation of the levers E E the locking levers D are also rotated l left in this position if the various parts contained in it are to be subjected to a cursory examination only. If repairs are nec essary, the type basket C is lifted off the studs a and removed from the frame A of the machine.
When being reinserted, the type basket C is first brought into the position shown in Fig. 3, in which it rests by the wedge surfaces c on the studs a and is then rocked about the studs (1 in a clockwise direction. l hen so rocked the inclined surfaces .2 on the levers E E and the sliding surfaces (Z on the locking levers l) strike against the studs a.
In consequence hereof the hook-shaped arms E and the part, adjacent thereto, of the loclting levers l) first move away from. each other against the action of the springs F. Shortly afterwards however they pass under the action of the springs F into the position shown in Fig. 1, in which position the stop faces 0 bear against the bolts a Pressure is now applied, using the lugs c as an abutment, to the locking levers D in the direction of the arrow a; in Fig. l. During the rotation of the locking levers E which now takes place, the eccentric curvature of the surfaces al causes the type basket 0 to be pressed on the one hand still more strongly, with its stop faces 0 against the bolts a and on the other hand to be clamped fast on the studs a by the wedge faces 0 0 The type basket C is now securely fixed in its operative position.
If the levers E E are dispensed with on both sides and only the locking levers D are provided, then, when removing the type basket, itis only necessary to operate the one locking lever D and the frame of the ma ine may be consequ t. v held fast with one and.

1. In a typewriter, a frame, a type basket removable out of the bottom of the frame, means for pivotally supporting said type basket within said frame whereby said type basket can be rocked about a horizontal axis out of the bottom of the machine and means for holdin said type basket to said frame.
2- In a typewriter the combination with a frame and removable type basket of means for pivotally supporting said type basket in said frame, a locking lever pivoted to said type basket and provided with an cecentric bearing surface, stops formed on said frame, said stops being adapted to be engaged by said locking lever and said type basket when said locking lever is moved to its locking position.
