vHAT 'narnia Application ledlJ'une 14, 1923. Serial No. 645,476. l,
tain new and usefulImprovements `in -I-IatA Driers, of which the following is a speci,- fication.
This invention relates to hat drying chambers and mo-re particularly to a novel and improved drier designed for installation on a conventional type of hot water boilery whereby advantage may be taken 0f heat radiation so that the drier may be utilized without any additional heating arrangement. Y
One of the objects of my inventlon 1s to provide 4a hat drier or chamber whlch can be conveniently mounted on the top of a conventional hot water boiler including provision for conducting steam to the top of the drying chamber so that the heat therein may be uniform throughout and at the same time afford means for supportlng and heating a conventional type of sand bag used in hat blocking and pressing art.
A further object of my invention is to provide an annular hat drier or chamber of a diameter to perm-'1t of its installation on the top of the conventional hot water boiler and provided with a sliding front closure or door including a steam coil in the topf of said chamber so that the heat generated f will be conducted uniformly throughout the same and thus avoiding any auxiliary heating device so that the cost of operation is reduced to a minimum.`
To enable others skilled in the art to fully comprehend' the underlying features of my invention that theyfmay embody the same in the various modications in structure and relation contemplated, drawings depicting a preferred form have been annexed as a part of this disclosure and in such drawings, similar reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout all the views, of which;
Figure 1 is 4a perspective view showing the drying chamber installed on a conventional type of hot water boiler.
Figure 2 is an enlarged sectional view illustrating the interior of the chamber and the coiled heating arrangement.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken subh stantially on the line 3--3 of Figure 2.
Referring now to the drawings, wherein like reference characters designate corre-v sponding parts throughout the several views,
5 designates a conventional typerof hot water boiler usually heated byl .gas to `generate steam andvfcommonly used' in the pressing and steaming and blockingjhats as illus#` tratedyand. described in my co-pending ap- 5 in my system, I provide an outlet Vor pipe connection 6 yfor attachment toI a casting `7 whereby the steam may fiow through a foot` operated valve controlled mechanism, not shown, but described in my co-pending application above referred to.
. plication, Serial Number 644,980, iiled June f 12, 1923. Connected to thehot water boiler In order to utilize thek heat generated i from the top of the hot water boiler 5, I have devised a drying chamber having an annular main body 8, the bottom edge 9 of which is crimped to an annular flanged ring 10 and soldered. to an annular extension 11, the `diameter of said extension being just slightly larger than the diameter of the boiler 5 so that the chamber may be slipped over the top 12 and held frictionally thereby in the manner clearly shown by Figures 1 and 2 of the drawing. It is of course understood that the bottom of the extension 11 is open and consequently, as the heat radiates upwardly, the same will pass into the drying chamber tothe hat or hats placed therein. Within the domeshaped top 13 of the body 8, I have provided an endless circulating coil 14 having a lead or pipe 15 to the hot water boiler and a second lead or outlet 16 to the Apipe connection 6 so that the steam entering the coils may pass outwardly through the casting 7 and to the valve when the said valve is opened. It will thus be seen that not only will the heat confined within the coil radiate downwardly, so as to produce a uniform temperature within the chamber, but that the top of the dome will be heated sufliciently to retain the heat in a sand bag 17, used in the hat blocking, pressing and steaming operation.
The front of the body 8 is further prosro I hav: shown but two partitions for this purpose, it will beV readily recognized that any number of such compartments may be provided, depending upon the size of the chamber. e Y
lIhile I have illustrated and described my invention with some degree of particularity, I realize that in practice various alterations therein may be made. I therefore reserve' the right and privilege of changing the form of the details of construction or otherwisev altering the arrangement of the correlated parts without departing from the spirit of' the invention or the scope of the appended' claims.
Having thus' described my invention, what I claim 'as' new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is 1'. A hat drier comprising an annular chamber having a reduced lower extension and open bottom adapted to iit over the top ofl a hot water boiler, al closure for said chamber and a plurality of hat supports dividing the chamber into compartments accessible through the closure.
2.. A hat drier comprising a boiler, an annular chamber having a reduced lower extension of a diameter to frictionally engage and fit over the top of said boiler, a guide anda sliding closure slidable thereinfor said chamber, hat supporting members dividing the chamber into a plurality of' compartments and means in the top of the chamber to radiate heat generated within the top of the boiler.
3'. A hat drier comprising a boiler, an annular chamber having a reduced lower extension and open bottom ofa diameter to :Eri'cti'onally engage and lit over the top of said boiler, curved guide and a segmental closure slid-able therein for the chamber, horizontal hat supporting barsdividing the said chamber intca plurality of compartments accessible through the closure and a heating coil in the top of the chamber in communication with the top of the boiler.
In testimony whereof I afHX my signature.
