UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES HORRIDGE, OF BOLTON, ENGLAND, ASSIGNOR TO JOHN HETHERINGTON AND SONS LIMITED, 0F MANCHESTER, ENGLAND.
MACHINE FOR COMBING COTTON, WOOL, AND THE LIKE.
Application filed May. 5, 1923. Serial No. 636,816.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES IIORRIDGE, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Bolton, in the county of Lancaster, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in or Relating to Machines for Combing Cotton, WVool, and the like, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in machines for combing cotton, wool and the like, and has for its object to construct a comb cylinder for such machines in such manner that the comb segment thereof can be readily removed without disturbing the other part of the cylinder.
In the accompanying drawings- Figure 1 is an end view of the improved cylinder.
Figure 2 is a side elevation, partly in section, of the comb or needle carrying part thereof.
Figure 3 is a side elevation, partly in section, of the cylinder assembled and Figure 4: is a transverse section taken on the line A B of Figure 3.
Referring to the drawings-1 represents the body of the cylinder, which is fixed upon the shaft 2, driven from the main driving shaft of the machine by the usual gearing.
The body 1 of the cylinder comprises a portion having a comparatively large diameter and a portion 1 having a comparatively small diameter embracing the shaft 2 and said body 1 is fixed upon the shaft 2 by means of set screws 3 and is furnished with end flanges 4, and embracing the part 1 of the body 1 in a saddle-like manner, as shown, is a comb circle or segment 5 upon which the needles 6 are mounted, the two parts ng the set screw 7 leaving the body 1 of the cylinder upon the shaft 2 and thus pre venting the necessity for removing the whole cylinder from its shaft which usually entails dismantling part of the gear with the consequent expenditure of time and labor.
WVhat I claim as m invention and desire to secure by Letters atent is 1. In a combing machine having a cylinder shaft, a cylinder comprising a pair of semi-cylindrical portions secured together to form a body having greater radius along one-half thereof than the other, means for securing said cylinder to said shaft, a needle segment adapted to embrace the half of the cylinder having the smaller radius, and means for securing the segment to said cylinder half.
2. In a combing machine having a cylinder shaft, a cylinder comprising a pair of semi-cylindrical portions secured together to form a body having greater radius along one-half thereof than the other, means for securing said cylinder to said shaft, a needle segment adapted to removably embrace the half of the cylinder having the smaller radius, and means for securing the segment to said cylinder half.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
JAMES HORRIDGE.
