FIRE-TOOL SUPPORT.
Application filed December 20, 1922. Serial No. 607,985.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARMINE M. CAR- MEROTO, a citizen of the United States, residing in the borough of Bronx, county of Bronx, city and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fire-Tool Supports, of which the following is a specification. I
This invention relates to supports, and
10 particularly to a support for fire tools adapted to be rigidly secured to a pipe which may form part of a heating plant or apparatus, or to any other suitable holding device.
It is a well known fact that the fire tools used in connection with heating apparatus are usually given scant attention, being allowed to stand in corners of the cellars or other places where the heating plant may be located, or carelessly hung on nails or hooks loosely driven into the brick work of the chimney walls or foundation of the building. The inconvenient location of the fire tools often leads the operator to disregard them so that they are not used regularly, thus materially reducing the efliciency of the heating plant. The hanging of the tools on insecure supports also frequently constitutes a danger to any one accidentally running against or touching them. The above conditions dictate the necessity for a practical, conveniently locatedand se- -curely held fire tool support which will prove an incentive to the regular use of the'tools and the proper care of the boiler or furnace.
The primary object of my present invention is to enable the fire tools, such as the pok-' er, brush, flue cleaner, and other devices used in conjunction with a steam or hot water boiler or furnace to be supported within convenient reach of the operator.
A further object is .to construct the fire tool support in one piece, with suitable securing means, so that the support may be cheaply manufactured and quickly and easily secured to one or more of the pipes of the heating apparatus, or to any other convenient holding device.
WVith the above and other objects in View, which will later appear, I have devised the support for firetools described in the following specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawing. forming a part hereof, in which I Figure 1 is a front view of a heating boiler showing my device in operative position, attached to a verticalsection of the plplpgi F lgure 2 15 a perspective view of the support;

Figure 4 is a perspective view showing a modification of the fire tool support which is adapted to be secured between two parallel horizontal pipes.
Referring further to the drawings, the
support is shown in its preferred form in Figures 1, 2 and 3, and consists of a longitudinally extending bar or bracket memher A of substantially uniform thickness throughout, having a plurality .of'depending portions B, the width of the depending portions B gradually decreasing toward the ends C. These ends G are turned upwardly toward the bracket A so that they are substantially parallel with the sides of the bracket, thus forming a series of hooked portions D. These hooks D may be of any desired number and are so spaced from each other as to provide relative large open spaces betweenthe hooked portions.
The outer end of the bar A curves downwardly gradually, as shown at E, and forms the last hook F of the series. 'Theopposite end of the bar is formed into two arcuatetogether present a curved surface L which is adapted to partly embrace a cylindrical pipe or. other suitable support, such as a riser O extending vertically upward from,
the boiler P.
The arms G are provided with lugs R which extend outwardly substantially at right angles to the arms G. The bar A, hooks D and F, arms G and brace K are all formed in one piece. The device is adapted tobe secured to the pipe 0 or other support by a substantially semi-circular U- bolt or other clamping device S, which is adapted to embrace the opposite side of the pipe 0. The ends of the clamp S are adapted to pass through holes T in the lugs R and are secured by nuts U threaded on the ends V of the clamp. If desired, a bolt head may be formed on one end V of the clamp so that it will only be necessary to.

tool support will be securely held on the pipe 0 or other support, against vertical or oscillatory movement. The location H of the clamping means at a point substantially in the plane of the top of the bar A causes the weight of the fire tools, here illustrated as a poker W, flue cleaner X and brush Y, to be borne by the brace K which rests flush against the face of the pipe 0 and is of such length as to adequately brace the entire structure. The brace K tapers gradually so thatthe lower end Z is quite thin and meets the face of the pipe O, thus presenting a neat appearance when in use.
In the modification of the invention illustrated in Figure 4 the device is shown in a form adapted for attachment to pipes which usually. run close to the ceiling, or other supports which may be located in a nonvertical position. In this form the bracket or, bar a and hooks -bare constructed in the same manner as described in connection with the preferred form. Both ends 0 of the bar 0, curve gradually downward to form the end hooks -d, and each of the ends c is formed with diverging arms -e which are adapted to present a curved surface f to embrace one of the pipes -g. The arms eare clamped about the pipes gby U- bolts or other clamping devices h in the same manner as in the preferred modification already described, and are adapted to brace the support against any swinging movement.
