To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that I, FRANK J. LASEGKI, a citizen of the United States of America, residin at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and tate of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cushion Tops, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

The invention relates to tops for cushions or seats and is adapted for use particularly in cushions or seats employing springs. Qne object of the invention is to provide a 51mple construction of cushion top which can be cheaply manufactured and readily attached to a spring cushion or seat. Another object of the invention is to provide a construction having means for yieldably maintaining the top or cover portion of the top taut, whereby the same will present a neat appearance to the cushion or seat. Further objects reside in the arrangements and combinations of parts as more fully hereinafter set forth.

The cushion or seat is made up in any usual manner and in the present instance comprises the spring support 1, which includes the border frame 2 and the cross rods 3. Coil springs 4: are mounted upon the border frame and cross rods. '5 is padding upon the s rings 4, and 6 is the cover having thedepen ing skirt 7 extending around the springs and suitably secured to the border frame 2.

The cushion top comprises the top or cover portion 8 to the under side of which is stitched paddin 9. This top or cover portion has the epending sklrt portion 10 adapted tobe located at the forward side of the cushion or seat and the depending side and rear skirt portions 11 and 12 respectively adapted to be located respectively at the sides and rear of thecushion or seat. The front skirt 10 extends from the top or perspective view of a portion cover portion 8 beneath the border frame 2 and is provided with suitable clips 13 which extend u and around the cross rods 3 for holding t e lower edge of the front skirt in place beneath the cushion or seat. 14 is a coil spring passing through a loop in the lower edge of the side and rear skirts 11 and 12 respectively, this spring terminating near the front skirt 10. The side and rear skirt portions 11 and 12 extend downwardly from the top or cover portion 8 a sufiicient dis tance such that their lower edges will be slightly below the bottom of'the padding 5 of the cushion or seat and this padding projects laterally outward a slight distance and the cover Gforms with the depending skirt 7.

As shown in Figure 5, the lower edge of the front skirt of the cushion top is posi tioned between the bars 17 and 18, one of of the cushion top which has the struck out lugs 19 passing or removed from a spring cushion or seat. Furthermore, the construction is such that the top or cover portion of the cushion top will be maintained taut and substantially smooth from front to rear irrespective of the condition of the padding in the cushion or seat. cushions in which the covering and skirt are worn out and unsi htly or in which the padding has become islocated. Also this cushion top may be directly applied over the springs of cushions or seats instead of applying the usual cover with its depending skirt.

What I claim as my invention is:

1. In a cushion or seat, the combination with a spring support, springs mounted thereon and padding upon said springs, of a cushion top attachably secured thereto, comprising a top portion, a depending front skirt extending from said top portion beneath said spring support and depending side and rear skirts, a coil spring extending around the lower edge of said side and rear skirts, and a series of coil springs secured to said first-mentioned coil spring for maintaining the latter below the bottom of said padding.

2. In a cushion or seat, the combination with a spring support and springs mounted thereon, of a cushion top secured thereto, comprising a cover portion, padding on the under side of said cover portion and secured thereto by transversely extending stitching, a skirt between said cover portion and spring This construction can be applied to aeeaeea support at one side of said springs and secured directly to said spring support, and a series of resilient members at the opposite side of said springs and secured to said cover portion in substantial alignment with said stitching, adapted to yieldably maintain said cover portion taut. 7

In a cushion or seat, the combination with a spring support and springs mounted thereon, of a cushion top comprising a top portion, a depending skirt at one side of said springs and secured to said spring support, and a depending skirt at the opposite side of said springs, a flexible member extending around the lower edge of said lastmentioned skirt, and a series of yieldable members secured to said lower edge and to said spring support for yieldably maintaining said top portion taut.

4. In a cushion or seat, the combination with a spring support and springs mounted thereon, of a slip-on cushion top secured thereto, comprising a top portion, a front skirt extending from said top portion into contact with said s ring support, and a rear skirt terminating a ove saidspring support, means for securing said front skirt to said spring support, and means for conforming said rear skirt to the contour of the cushion or seat and securing said rear skirt to said spring support.
