D. J. MURPHY EGG PRESERVER Filed Feb. 26 1921 61110: we I? Patented May 6, 1924.
UNITED] STATES AT O C EGG rnnsnavnnr Application iiled February Serial Note 48 ,183.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, DANIEL J. MURPHY, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Egg Preserver, of which the following is a specification.
The device forming the subject matter of this application is adapted to hold a plurality of eggs during the application of a preservative to the eggs.
The invention aims to provide novel means whereby many eggs may be held in compact relation to receive a preservative, such as water glass, it being possible to treat a maximum number of eggs, with a minimum amount of preservative.
Another object of the invention is to improve the device by so constructing it that the egg supporting platforms may be taken out readily for cleaning.
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the invention appertains.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 shows in longitudinal section, a device constructed in accordance with the invention; Figure 2 is a cross section on the line 22 of Figure 1; and Figure 3 is a fragmental cross section, taken through one of the supports.
In carrying out the invention, there is provided a receptacle, denoted generally by the numeral 1, the receptacle including a bottom 2, a shell 3 and a removable lid 4. The lid 4 may be supplied with a handle 5 and there are handles 6 on the shell 3.
Located within the receptacle 1 are any desired number of supports, designated generally by the number 7. Each support 7 preferablv comprises a trough-shaped mem ber 8 having oppositely extended flanges 17, the trough-shaped members 8 being cut away at their outer .edges, asshown at 9, to define vertically spaced shoulders 10. The lower ends of the supports 7 rest on the bottom 2. At their upper'ends, the supports 7 are supplied with tabs 18 attached by securing elements 19 to the shell 3 of the receptacle 1.
Any desired number of platforms 11 are provided. The platforms 11 are equipped with eripheral notches 12 adapted to permit t e passage of the shoulders 10, when the plat orms 11 are moved downwardly in the receptacle 1. When the platform 11 has arrived at the desired place, the platform is rotated, until, as shown in Figure 2, the notches 12 are out of alinement with the shoulders 10, whereupon the platform will be supported on the shoulders. Each platform 11 is provided with any desired number of openings 14, in which the eggs to be treated may be placed. The platformhas, further, a central openina 15, wherein no egg is placed, the openin 15 being unencumbered, to facilitate the circulation of the preservative in the receptacle 1, between the platforms 11. At their edges, the platforms 11 are spaced, from the shell 3 to facilitate the circulation of the preservative.
It is obvious that the device formingthe subject matter of this application may be taken apart readily, for cleaning, and that the preservative can circulate freely. The flanges 17 on the supports 7 exercise a double function. First, they give the supports a bearing on the shell 3, and, secondly, they space the periphery of the platform 11 from the shell 3, so that there is room for the preservative to circulate between the edgeor periphery of the platform and the shell.
The inner edges of the parts 8 slant outwardly, from each shoulder to the platform next therebeneath. Consequently, the openings 14 may be located close to the edge or periphery of the platform, thereby increasing the capacity of the platform, and, when the platform is rotated, to alinethe notches 12 with the shoulders 10, the eggs which are in the outermost openings will not strike against the inwardly projecting parts 8.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is: 4
A device of the class described, comprising a receptacle, supports in the receptacle, each support including a U-shaped doublewalled portion, which is cut away to define shoulders, the constituent walls of the U- shaped member being prolonged to form lateral flanges, and platforms mounted on the shoulders, the platforms having egg-receiving openings, the platforms being provided with peripheral notches permitting the platforms to be adjusted vertically when the notches are alined with the shoulders, the
flanges being interposed between the rec'ep-,
tacle and the platforms and serving to space the platforms at their peripher from the receptacle, theinner edges of t e supports slanting outwardly from each shoulder to the platform next therebeneath, thereby to my own, I have hereto afiixecl my signature permit the openings to be located close to the in the presence of two Witnesses. periphery of each platform, the platforms being rotatable Without causing the eggs in DANIEL J.
