Ca CHEESE-EDGE, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR E0 LIE;HD1213 ?v COREFQBATION 9F "NEW JERSEY.
GABD QR SHEET PRDTECTGR.
Ap plication' filed December ole/oinit 'i/zoy oncern:
he city of Cambridge, in the county inlesex and State of Massachusetts, invented certain new and useful linp ov ments in Card or Sheet Protectors; L do hereby declare that the following "nil, clean, and exact description of the once being had to the accompanysome ref ing drawings, and to the marked thereon, which form a part 0? this specification This invention re ates to s transparent protective sheet such in celluloid or mica or the like for covering the data or written matter upon index cards or the like, which arendapted to be used in a card index sysm and mounted in 91 tray in overlapping heir lower edges exposed.
"ins customary to cover sod of the cards by i interlocked therewith by is lower corners of the cards or v attaching tl'ic same by eyelets or the like, are in: ny obvious objections to muti edges of the cards especially is typed, hesidestlie necesand time that is lost in remove strips when. necessary. on the cards above the not protected from dirteen he overlapped cards.
object of this inventransparent protective substantially the entire out lace of? the card and that is not diy attsclied to the card, but is provided frictionally engaging said store an ct covers object of this invention to support the l tectsve sneet in combination 4.5 with the said so that the protective sheet may be readily dissociated with respect to the card when the latter is removed from its s so that any matter can be readily the index card.
so hese and other objects in view i become more spparent in. the folescxsi Lion, my invention comprises *ucture and arrangement hereand more particularly numerals of retcr- 5, 1921. Serial itlc. 520,186.
pointed out and defined in the appended claims. Y i
In the accompanying drawing which illu trates a preferred embodiment of my invention and in which similar reference numorals refer to similar features fcrcnt views:
Figure l-is a front View of a card mounted upon its support and covered by my protective sheet. 1
Figure 2 is an, end view thereof Figure 3 is a plan view of the protective sheet detached from its support.
Figure 4 is an edge view of the protector with the card in place beneath the same, upon an enlarged scale.
Figure 5 is an enlarged edge view of the tension flange that presses the protector against the card.
in the different figures of the drawings, l have illustrated one embodiment of my in the di'l invention which comprises a transparent si0n flange 3 sheet. The particular construction is such that the flange 8 presses firmly against the hack of the sheet 1 and draws the same against a card when the same is supported beneath the sheet and exerts sufficient 'ric tion to facilitate simultaneous mounting of the'card and sheet upon the same support, The upper edges of the sheet 1 are provided with elongated notches 4. adapted to receive studs or eyelets 5 on a card sup port 6.
The card 7 which the transparent sheet 1 is designed to protect is likewise provided with a pair of similar elongated notches adapted to receive the said studs or eyelets 5 and when the card 7 is placed beneath the sheet 1 with its lower edge inside the Flange 3, the flange 3 will frictionally hold the card as shown in Figures 2 and 3, the notches in the card and sheet will coincide or he in alinement so that by slightly "flexing the combined card and sheet, they can he simultaneously mounted upon the eyelets 5 us is obvious. And by a slight tiexure, they can he also simultaneously removed asis evident. lit is characteristic of my invention thst the protective sheet 1 isalwsys tree downwardly and an upwardly turncdnnd slightly bowed-in ten! contacting the rear of the spacing from the card and may he readily detached item its support Without removing the card from its support, anti may else be readily placed over the card after the same is mounted The card strip having fiaps 8 extending inwardly at tie upper etiges and secured to the eyelets 5 for more efiectively preventing lateral movement of the cardanti protective sheet; the fabric being secured to a rectangular bar 9 which is adapted to fit in guide channels of a tray.
It will evidently he observed that I lmye invented a novel transparent protective sheet that covers the Whole front face of the card, that is not attached to the card and that is provided with means for pressing the sheet against the card.
it am aware that numerous details e-f construction may be verie i through. a, Wide range Without departing from the prin ciples of this invention, and I therefore do not purpose limiting the patent granted otherwise than necessitated by the prier art.
I claim as my invention:
1. The combination with a card, of a, support to which the card is remcvebly secured,
support 6 may comprise a fabric ess s and a transparent sheet removably mounted on said support and having means for pressing itself against said card,
. 2. The combination with a carchot a support therefor comprising a pair of spaced studs having flaps thereon, a transparent sheet having notches adapted for engaging said-studs under said flaps for covering the card mounted on said support.
3. iThecoznhinat-ion with a card, of port therefor having studs, and a. transparent sheet for covering the front face of said card, said card and sheet having notches adapt tobe brought into alincment for simultaneously mounting them upon said studs by a flexing movement.
4.Tl1e combination with a card, of a support to which the card is (letnchnhlv secured, eni a trcnsparent sheet removably s sup- .mounted; on saict support and having 2 flange embracing an edge of said card.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses GEGRGE H. DAWSON. Witn' sees B. ALLEY, M. Lmnssse.
