Corset-clasps.
No.149,206. PatentedMarch 31,487.4.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE;
THOMAS B. VDE FOREST, OF BIRMINGHAM, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR OF THREE-FOURTHS HIS RIGHT TO NELSON I-I. DOWNS, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN CORSET-CLASPS.
Speciiication forming part of Letters Patent No. 149,206, dated March 31, 1874; application led February 11, 1874.
To ali whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS I3. DE FonEsT, of Birmingham, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement in Corset Clasps; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent,.in-
Figures l and 2, front views of the two parts of a corset-clasp; Fig. 3, a partial side view and longitudinal section; and in Fig. 4, a transverse section.
This invention relates to an improvement in what are known to the trade as corsetclasps, and consists in combining with a lon gitudinal foundation a wire coiled spring, through which the longitudinal foundation is placed, and the coiled spring rolled down thereon, as more fully hereinafter described.
A is the longitudinal foundation, preferably a spring, which is made about one-fourth the width of common steels, and over this a coiled spring, B, (single or more,) is placed, made sesses the required amount of elasticity with. a very greatly increased amount of flexibility,
rendering it impossible to break the clasps, and as the coil B may be made from non-corrosive wire, the usual protection to prevent this is avoided.
I claim as my invention- A corset-clasp formed from a longitudinal foundation-strip inclosed Within a coiled-wire spring, which is rolled down on the said longitudinal foundation, the coils preserving their circular form, substantially as described, and provided with tips and hooks and eyes.
THOMAS B. DE FOREST.
