Be it known that I, J osErH,P.CoNNoR, a citizen of the United States, residing at 'Towsom inthe `county of ,Baltimore andl State of Maryland, have invented new and "useful Improvements in Corrugating Machines,of which the following is a specification.- o
This invention relates to ycorrugatin'g or fluting machines, and particularly to a device for forming longitudinal corrugations in a metal sheet, which is especially adapted for use in the construction of expansion joints. for roads, pavements, and the like One object of the present invention is to provide a machine of simple andy eiiicient construction by which the continuous corrugating of sheets suitable for expansion joints in roadways and pavements ,maybe` produced; rapidly and-at small costofproduction,-the gconstruction being such that the' sheet willfbe deliveredproperly corrugated and-,with its longitudinal margins properly 'smooth .and nishedgso'that the strip will be in condition for handling. upper kportion of the said frame 11 is provided with elongated recesses 16 which act i as guideways Vfor theV bearing blocks 17y that Acarry the shaft k18 on which is mounted the adjustable roll 19. i, For effecting the proper adjustment of the roll 19 relative to the roll l5, set screws 20 are connected to the movable bearing 17 and extend an appreciable distance above the frame' 11y through threaded openings formed therein. It will be seen that the adjustment ofthe rolls is so effected that the in tensity or degree of corrugation imparted to the metal may bel varied, as desired. 5 e
The shaft 14 projects at both ends a, suitable distance beyond the side frames 1=1 and hassecured adjacentone end Vthereof the drivegear 22, which is adapted to be connected to any `suitable ldrive means (not shown), while at thenopposite endof the i shaft 14 there is carried a gear 23, which is in mesh with a corresponding gear 24 on the shaft 18. It will thus be seen that the rolls ously upon rotation of the drive gear 22,
which is preferablyrsecured tothesame shaft as the roll 15.7 v
. The rear endlof each ofthe sideframes 11 is provided with elongated slots 25 to which are adjustably mounted a pair of guide rollers 26 and 27 by means of the clamping bars 28 and 29, that are secured tothe inner and outer faces, respectively, of the side frame yby the `bolts 30.
