'IIIEXNG AND BMTEEG WEACHINE.
appunti@ sied January e, i920. serial no. 350,391.
To all 'whom t may concern.:
Be it lrnownthat we, HENRY TRUST, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Parli Ridge, in the county oi Bergen and State ot New Jersey, and FRANK M. atenuar, a citizen oi' the United States, and resident of Brooklyn, in the county ci' Kings and State or" New York, have invented certain new andruseiiul improvements in Mixing and Beating Machines, ot which the iollowing is a specification..
Our invention relates to mixing and beating machines and the object ol' our invention is to provide an attachment for ma chines oi' this character that can be driven by the lmain driving spindle and can be easily detached 'from the casing ot the machine and comprising gearing of diilierent specific construct-ion to permit different speeds of the small gear wheels relative to the speed of the driving shalt, as well as different distances between the main and driven spindles to accommodate beaters ot different diameters to be used in the mixing receptacles. i
Further objects will be hereinafter stated and the novel features of the construction pointed out in the claims.
lReferring to the drawings which form a part of thi specification. i
Figure 'l is a vertical sectional view of a construction embodying our invention.
Figure 2 is an inverted plan view on a reduced scale.
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional. view of a construction embodying our invention, of more compact orrn, the gear ring and pinion of which can be inserted in the deeper casing illustrated in Figure l.
A indicates the casing of the mixing inachine and B the detachable housing which is held to the casing by stud-bolts C-(l D indicates the main driving shaft which carries a casting E held thereto by a key D. The inner tace B of the housing l5 is formed smooth and cylindrical and is open at its upper end, and a shoulder B2 is formed which extends entirely around the cylinder and supports a steel or bronle gear ring F having gear teeth F cut therein. rlhis gear ring is fastened securely to the cast iron housing B in such manner as to be readily removed. in annular groove B2 is termed in the housing adjacent the opening `lds in the lower end of the housing B. The casting E, hereinaiterreferred to as the carrier, is provided'with a downwardly extending ring-like projection El which rests in the annular groove B2, the bottom oi" which serves as a bearing 'lor the portion E" and also holds oil to lubricate the same. A depending hub B is provided with a bearing B5 in which is supported a spindle G which is driven by a gear wheel H mounted thereon and held by a set screw G. This gear wheel H meshes with the gear teeth F.
Further spindles and gear wheels, indicated in dotted lines J, may be supported in like manner to drive two or more chucks such as l, which carry the beaters. The gear wheel H may be disengaged from the teeth E" by lifting the spindleV G until the gear H is in the position indicated by dotted lines K.
Referring now to the construction illustrated in Figure 3, it will be observed that the housing L is exactly like the housing B except that'it is not so deep. rlhe can' rier M is practically the saine as that indicated by E, the main difference being that the central' hub N, shown in Figure 1, ex-
tends upward within the housing B, whereas in Figure 3 the hub which serves the saine purpose, extends downward and is held to the shaft D by a pin P instead oi' the key D". instead of using spur gears as illustrated in Figure l, we provide' a gear ring Q with bevel gear teeth Q',
and a 'bevel gear wheel R is used in place of the same spur gear H.
This construction permits a niuch more shallow housing than that used in the construction shown in Figure l. n both cases, the gear rings F and Q project toward the centre in overlapping relation to the outer edge of the carrier which holds the parts together when the housing is removed from the casing A.
rlhe operation is as follows:
rlhe shaft D in its rotation drives the carrier E, causing the gear wheel H to rot-ate as'the parts are revolved about the shait D and thus driving the spindle G4 and beater carried by the chuck readily understood.
l, as will be The wearing .parte are easy to duplicate or replace when worn and by usingsteel gears, the life of the machine is greatly increased.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent: Y
l. A machine of the character described comprising a casing, a housing connected to and depending therefrom and having an opening in its lower end, a guide flange forming a part of the said housing, a spindle supported in said casing, a carrier connected to said spindle and having a flange supported by the iiange of the housing, a toothed ring rigidly conne-cted with said housing, a gea-r wheel carried by said carrier and adapted to mesh with the said toothed ring.
2. A machine of the character described comprising a casing, a housing connected thereto and having an opening in its lower end, a flange forming a part of said housing, an upwardly projecting circular ridge connected with said flange, a spindle supported in said casing, Ia carrier rigidly connected with said spindle, a circular flange forming a part of said carrier and adapted to co-act with the circular ridge of the flange whereby the carrier is guided, a toothed ring rigidly mounted in said housing, a spindle carried by said carrier, a gear wheel rigidly mounted on said last mentioned spindle, said gear wheel being adapted to mesh with the teeth of the toothed ring.
3.v A machine of the character described .comprising a4 casing, a housing connected to and depending therefrom having an opening in its lower end and an annular groove formed adjacent thereto, a spindle supported in said casing and depending therefrom, a carrier connected to said spindle and having a depending portion located Meneer in said annular groove in the housing, a gear ring carried by said housing, a spindle, a gear wheel mounted on said spindle and carried by said carrier, said gear wheel meshing with the gear teeth of said gear ring.
4. A machine of the character described comprising a casing, a housing connected Y to and depending therefrom having an opening in its lower end and an annular groove formed adjacent thereto, a spindle supported in said casing `and depending therefrom, a carrier connected to Said spindle and having a depending portion located in said annular groove in the housing, a gear ring enclosed and carried by said housing, a spindle, a gear wheel mounted on said spindle and carried by said carrier, said gear wheel meshing with the gear teeth of said gear ring'.
