TRUCK.
Application filed January 22, 1923. Serial No. 614,324.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LoNNIn G. WEBB, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tucson, in the county of Pima and State of A rizona, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trucks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to trucks, and more particularly to wheeled trucks for supporting scrubbing buckets, mops, and other apparatus for washing and cleaning.
An object of the invention is the provision of a wheeled platform and a holder for a bucket, together with 1 suitable supporting means for mops, brushes, and the like.
A further object is the provision of means for holding soap. wash cloths,'washing powders, and similar material in an orderly manner.
A further object is the provision of an apparatus of this character which may be easily rolled from place to place to facilitate the use of the receptacles and instruments carried thereby.-
In the accompanying drawings, I have shown one embodiment of the invention. In this showing:
Figure 1 is a side elevation,
Figure 2 is a plan view,
Figure 3 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view,
Figure 4 is a vertical transverse sectional view on line H of Figure 3,
Figure 5 is a detail view of a bucket securing member, and,
Figure 6 is a detail sectional view on line 6-6 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings, the reference numeral 1 designates a base or platform having suitable rollers or casters 2, secured to its under surface. The upper face of the platform is divided into two sections by a transverse vertical wall 3. A pail of water is adapted to be arranged on the platform in front of the wall 3. Suitable means are provided for retaining the pail in position. As shown, an arcuate band 5 is supported on the platform by suitable brackets 6. The ends of this band are spaced from each other as shown in Figure 5 of the drawings. The space between the ends of the band 5 is adapted to be bridged by a similar arcuate band 7 This band is mounted on a threaded rod 8, passing through suitable threaded openings in a guide or bracket 9. The stationary band 5 and the movable band 7 are adapted to form a clamp to receive a bucket or pail as shown in Figures 1 and 4 of the drawings.
In the rear of the partition wall 3, there is provided a cupboard 10, adapted to receive a plurality of drawers 11, 12, and 13. The upper drawer 13 is relatively shallow and opens to the rear of the truck. The other two drawers open to oneside, as shown in Figure 1 of the drawings. A box 1 1 is arranged on the platform in the rear of the drawer 11. This box is provided with a suitable bracket 15 for the reception of a knife 16. A soap dish 17 may be arranged on the side of the cupboard as shown in Figures l and 2 of the drawings. The top of the truck is formed in two sections 18 and 19, 'connected to each other by hinges 20. The section 19 is adapted to bemoved to the dotted line position shown in Figure 1 of the drawings, when the user desires to obtain access to the pail 4. At other times, it may be arranged in the full lines position, forming a platform for cuspidors. A bracket 21 is arranged on the dividing wall 3, adapted to form a support for a mop handle when the mop is in the bucket. The side of the truck is provided with a suitable bracket 22 having a plurality of openings .23 for the reception of the handles of brooms, mops, clusters, and the like.
A rubbish receptacle 24 may be arranged on one side of the truck, secured thereto in any suitable manner. This receptacle is provided with a roller or caster 25. A handle 26 is arranged at the rear of the truck, consisting of a pair of inclined arms arranged on opposite sides and connected by a cross bar 27'.
Means are provided for preventing accidental movement of the truck when esired. As shown, a bracket 28 is arranged on one side of the truck and is provided with an opening for a rod 29. This rod is provided with rack teeth 30, adapted to engage one side of the opening in the bracket 28. The rod is normally pressed toward the side of the opening by a spring 31. A coil spring 32 is arranged above the bracket between it and a washer 33, mounted on the upper end of the bolt. The contact block 3% is arranged on the lower end of the rod and is provided with a suitable fastening 35 of frictional material.
The operation of the device is as follows:
The scrubbing bucket 4-. is arranged on ton the platform and clamped in position by clamping elements 5 and 7 to prevent accidental removal. The block 3% is adapted to be forced into engagement with the floor or other surface when a mop is being wrung to prevent the carriage or truck from moving. The rubbish receptacle 24 may be removed from the carriage for dumping. The drawers 12 and 13 may be used for carrying bulk washing powder, saw dust and the like. The drawer 13 may be employed for carrying soap, cleaning powder in boxes, cleaning liquids and scrubbing brushes. The drawer at the top may be employed for storing scrubbing cloths and dusting cloths.
The apparatus provides a convenient support for various implements employed in cleaning and permits their storage in an orderly and eflieient manner, whereby they may be readily located when desired.
It is to be understood that the form of the invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size and arrangement of parts may be resorted t without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. In a device of the character described, a lower platform, rollers arranged beneath said platform, bucket retaining members arranged on said platform, a plurality of drawers arranged on said platform, a substantially flat top forming an upper platform, said upper platform comprising a stationary portion and a hinged portion, the stationary portion being arranged over said drawers and the hinged portion being normally arranged over a bucket disposed on said lower platform.
' 2. In a device of the character described, a lower platform, rollers arranged beneath said platform, a transverse wall extending upwardly from said platform and dividing it into two sections, bucket retaining means arranged on said platform on one side of said wall, a plurality of drawers arranged on said platform on the other side of said wall, a substantially flat'top forming an upper platform, said upper platform comprising a hinged section and a stationary section. the stationary section being ar ranged above said drawers, and a handle secured to said lower platform and extending upwardly therefrom.
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LONNIE G. WEBB.
