PATENT OFFICE.
. SAMUEL FINKELSTEIN, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
DRAWING TABLE.
Application filed Kay 12, ms. Serial m5. access.-
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL FmKnLs'rmN, a citizen of the United States, and residing at Brooklyn,-in the county of Kings and I State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drawing Tables, of which the following is a'specificatiomsuch as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
Thisin'vention relates to drawing tables, boards or the'like and particularly to devices of this class designed for use by draughtsmen, sketchers, tracers and others, 3 and the object of the invention is to provide a table or board of the class specified, the table member of which is composed of transparent material, and the table orboard being provided with illuminatin means whereb tracings, co ice and the ike ma be ma e on said tab e or board; and with this and other objects in view the invention consists in a device of the class and for the purpose specified which is simple in construction, eflicient in use and which is constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accomso panying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Fig. 1 is a pers ective view of a drawing to my invention; Fig. 2 partial section on the line 2-2 of Fi 1; and,
ig. 3-a partial section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
proved table member which is referably composed of transparent materia such as glass and the like which is reinforced b side stri s 6 secured to leg members or stan as ards oined by brace rods 8. 4
The support for the table member 5 may be ofany desired construction, such as is commonl employed in drafting tables or boards 0 the class under consideration, the
6 distinctive feature being the provision of the transparent table 'memberb. In practice, I preferably mount upon the table membe! 5 two ban In the drawing, Ihave shown at 5 my immembers 9 which are adjustable longitudinally thereof and which may be clamped in any position of adjustment by a suitable screw 10 shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing, and these band members are adapted to be used for securing a suit.- able work sheet orvsheets on the table member 5 in a predetermined position.
In carrymg my invention into effect, I
also employ an illuminating device or element 11, preferably comprising alight bulb 12, reflector 13 and a flexible strandard 14 which is ad'ustably secured to one of the brace rods 8 y a suitable clamp device 15, as clearly shown in Fig. 3.
In the use of my improved drawing table or board, it will be apparent that a drawin to be, traced or reproduced is first laced upon the table member 5 beneath the ands 9 and a sheet of tracing paper placed thereon in the usual manner, and by reason of the li ht or illuminating device 11 beneath the ta le member '5 an accurate reproduction or tracing may be produced, and by reason of the ad usta le properties of the i luminating device or element 11, the li ht rays may be positioned beneath the tab e member 5 to produce the most efi'ective results.
It will be apparent that while I have shown a s ecific su port for the table member 5 an a speci 0 form of illuminating device, that I am not necessarily limited in these respects, and various changes in and modificatlons of the construction herein shown and described may be made, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from 'the spirit of my invention or sacrificin its advantages.
Havin ully described my invention, what I c aim as new and desire to" secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A drafting table or board of the class described, comprising a table member composed of transparent material, a support for said table member an illuminatin element having a flexible sup orting stan ard, said standard being detac ably and adiustably mounted on said table support beneath said table member, whereby said illuminating element may be positioned to project its rays at right angles to any point on the bottom face of said transparent member. 1
2. A drafting table or board of the class described, comprising a. glasstable member,
triangular supports for said member, longitudinal braces connecting said supports, means on said table member for securing Work thereon, an illuminating element hav- 5 ing a reflector and a flexible standard detachably and adjust-ably mounted on one of said braces whereby said illuminating element may be positioned to project rays at right angles to any point on the bottom face of said table member.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name this 9th dayof May 1922.
SAMUEL FINKELSTEIN.
