Be it known that I, HENRY LUKE, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at Neil's. in the county of Belmont and State of @hio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Reflector Attachments for Miners Lamps, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in reflector attachments for miners lamps, the primary object thereof residing in the provision of such a reflector, that may be expeditiously applied to all types of miners lamps with which I am now familiar, the nature of the same being such as to focus the light rays, and to project the same a consideraably greater distance than is now the case with the conventional types of miners lamps.
A further object of my invention is the provision of such an attachment that is comparatively simple of construction, and inexpensive of manufacture, the same being well adapted for ready attachment to and removal from miners lamps.
T he nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detailed description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings, the invention residing in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the drawings forming part of this application, like numerals of reference inclicate similar parts in the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary elevational view of a conventional form of miners lamp showing my improved reflector associated therewith.
Figure 2 is an elevational view of this lamp, together with my reflector thereon, the said reflector being shown in cross section.
Figure 3 is a top plan view of my reflector attachment per se, and
Figure ,4- is a vertical transverse sectional view thereof.
Referring to the drawings in detail. and particularly to Figures 1 and 2, the miners lamp includes the usual carbide receptacle 5, together with the water container 6, removably arranged thereon, which container is formed with an opening 7 at the front end of the lamp.

shaped metallic reflector 8 having an opening 9 therein. Formedupon the outer surface of this reflector is a curved plate 10, the said opening 9 within the reflector also passing centrally through said plate. The top ofthe reflector is formed with an outlet tube 11 adjacent the open front end thereof, which tube has a protecting cap 12 removably arranged thereon.
The-front opening of the reflector 8 is formed to provide a channel 13 within which is arranged a bulls-eye lens 14, the said reflector inwardly of this lens being formed with annular rows of perforations 16. Vithin the said opening 7 of the water receptacle 6 of the miners lamp, there is brazed or otherwise secured one end of a tube or nipple 17, the opposite end being screw threaded externally as at 18, and adapted for detachably'receiving an improved form of burner tip 19. My reflector is adapted to be engaged over this tube 17, the curved plate 10 thereof having close contact with the adjacent surface of the water compartment 6 of the lamp for preventing the rotation of the said reflector upon the lamp, the reflector being maintained upon said tube 17 by a nut 20 upon the screw threaded end 1801 said tube 17.
The reflector 8 is formed at one side with a pocket 21 within which is maintained through the medium of a strap member 22 a small cylinder 23, which cylinder carries the usual stick of spark producing material. The upper end of this cylinder 23 extends through an opening 24 in the upper end of said pocket and carries a friction wheel 25 a portion of which extends outwardly of the reflector through a slot 26 therein for permitting this friction wheel 25 to he rotated for consequently producing sparks within the reflector for igniting the gas at the burner tip it being readily understood that the perforations 16 within the reflector will permit of the entrance of air into the reflector, whil the outlet tube 11 will carry off the heat and gases.
In view of the above description, it is be lieved by me that the advantages of a reflector for miners lamps of the character herein shown and described will be readily appreciated by those skilled in the art, and although I have set forth the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claiinee.
hat I claim as new is:
The combination with a niiners lamp having th water compartment formed with an opening and a sleeve member mounted in said opening and extended outwardly therefrom, and a burner mounted in the outer end of the sleeve, of a semi-spherical reflector having an opening formed in the central portion adapted to fit over the sleeve and engage the outer surface of the water compartment, a nut having screw threaded cooperation with said sleeve for securing said reflector to said compartment means for positioning the reflector in a fixed relation with respect to said water compartment, the annular edge of said reflector being lormedwith a bead adapted to form a lens seat, a lens mounted in said seat, said reflector having a plurality of openings adjacent the beaded edge thereof extending entirely around said edge portion for reducing the heatin of said lens, the upper portion of said reflector being formed with an upwardly extending tubular section having a removable cap positioned, in substantial vertical alignment above said burner for providing effective ventilation of the heat therefrom.
