To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES E. STEWARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wichita Falls, in the county of Wichita and State of Texas, have invented new and useful. Improvements in Wheels, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in'power mechanisms and has particular relation to rotary means which may be substituted for reciprocatory means used in the transmission of power.
More specifically stated, the invention aims to provide an eccentric wheel which may be substituted for a crank arm, walking beam and the like and is especially adapted for use in well drilling, pumping and other machinery of an analogous character.
In addition, the invention aims to provide an eccentric Wheel for the above purpose which is simple in construction, may be readily secured upon a shaft and in which friction is reduced to a minimum.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claim.

Referring in detail to the drawings,
wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the form of the invention shown in Figures 1 to 3 comprises a wheel which includes a hub 10 and a rim 11, the latter being mounted and rotatable In this form of the invention the hub is of solid construction and is provided with a bearing opening 12 which is eccentrically located, oppositely extending flanges 13 serving to provide increased bearing surface to insure a true running wheel and to add to the strength and stability of the shaft 12 upon which the wheel is secured. The hub may be secured upon the shaft by means of a key or other suitable means. The outer edge of the hub is preferably provided with oppositely disposed marginal flanges 14 which form a relatively wide bearing surface.
The rim 11 in this form of the invention is of a sectional formation and includes an annular section 15 which is substantially L-shaped in cross section and which pro vides a rim having an annular flange 16 extending from one edge thereof. The opposite edge of the rim is recessed as at 17 to provide a seat for a removable flange 18 which is spaced from the flange 16 so that an annular channel is provided which receives the outer edge of the hub 10.
Located within the channel just described are antifriction devices in the form of roll ers 19, while the inner walls of this channel are provided with recesses for the reception of packing rings or washers 20. These rings or washers 2O bear against the outer edges of the flanges 14 and act as a means for retaining lubricant within the channel so as to provide for free rotary movement of the rim upon the'hub. The flange 18 is removably held in place by .means of bolts 21.
The outer edge of the rim 11 is provided with an annular groove 22' for the reception of a cable or other flexible element 23, which may in turn be engaged over a pulley or like member.
In the modified form of the invention shown in Figures 4 to 7 inclusive, the hub 10 is of sectional formation, being split Like the first described form of the invention, suitable anti-friction rollers or similar devices 28 are interposed between the hub and the rim.
If desired, other anti-friction devices may be used With either form of the invention, one of such devices being shown in the form of a metal ring 29 in Figure 8 of the drawings. This ring may be annular in form or may consist of two or more sections, as desired.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall Within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention What is claimed is:
A Wheel comprising a hub, a sectional rim rotatable thereon, said rim comprising an annular member substantially L-shaped in cross section and providing a rim portion and a flange at one edge thereof, a flange removably secured to the opposite edge of said rim portion and spaced from the first mentioned flange to provide an annular hubreceiving channel and anti-friction devices located Within the channel and lubricant retaining rings interposed between the inner Walls of the channel and the opposed faces of the hub.
