To all whom tmay concern Be it known that I, RAYMOND 3V. Known, a citizen of the United States, residing at Galion, in the county of Crawford and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Exhaust Noz zles for Steam Boilers, of which the following IS a specification.
' This invention relates to boilers of a vertical type, and particularly to those boilers having an exhaust steam pipe discharging into the stack to cause a draft through the fire tubes of the boiler. I
In boilers of this construction the cross sectional area of the boiler is relatively large and that of the stack is relatively small so that those tubes which are out of line with the smoke stack are practically useless as fines because the exhaust does not pull a draft through them or does not exert its whole force to secure a draft through these tubes. Therefore, those fiues directly under the smoke stack are very liable to be burned out.
One of the objects of my-invention is to overcome this condition by providing a nozzle so constructed that the exhaust steam as it leaves the nozzle will be projected radially outward over all the tire tube ends, the nozzle being further so constructed, however, that some of the exhaust steam will pass directly from the nozzle into the stack at a high velocity so as to pick up the steam which'has been spread radially outward and cause a draft through allof the flues instead of merely those tlues which are directly under the smoke stack.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of a boiler having an exhaust nozzle constructed in accordance with my invention;

Referring to these drawings 10 designates the outer shell of a vertical boiler of any suitable type and having the dome 11 and the smoke stack 12. Opening through the head 13 are the fire tubes 14. So far the construction is that of an ordinary standard vertical boiler.
Extending radially inward through the wall of the shell 10 is a steam pipe 15' which is connected to any suitable source of steam under high pressure. This pipe extends radially inward to the center of the dome 11 and is there connected to an angular exhaust nozzle 16 which extends upward in axlal alignment wlth the axis of the stack 12. This exhaust nozzle, as illustrated in to illustrate the extent to which the nozzle tapers upward.
Adjacent its upper end the nozzle is formed with a plurality of openings 18 which extend longitudinally of the nozzle to any desired extent but terminate short of the upper end of the nozzle. These openings also extend circumferentially around the nozzle and, as illustrated, there are three of these openings, but I do not wish to be limited to this. Above the openings the nozzle has a relatively solid upwardly flaring end 19 with a central aperture 20. As the exhaust travels through the pipe 15 and through the nozzle, it will strike the portion 19, which constitutes a deflector plate, and the exhaust steam will be deflected out through the openings 18 in a fan shape which will practically extend across almost the entire upper ends of the fines or the entire surface of the web 13. lhe aperture 20 in the upper end of the nozzle will let some of the exhaust steam pass through at a high velocity and this high velocity stream will pick up the steam which has been ejected laterally and cause a draft through all of the several fire tubes I smoke stack.
