Application filed July 1,
To all 107mm t may concern.'
Be it lrnown that JOHN M. RoHLmNc, residing at Plainfield, in the county of Union kand State of New Jersey, and being a citizen of the United States, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Support, of which the following isa full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appe'rtains to make and to use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the preferred form ofthe invention, though it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to theeXac-t details of construction shown and described, as it is obvious that various modifications thereof within the scope of the claims will occur to persons skilled in the art.
In said drawings:
Figure 1 is a sectionfof my improved device taken on the line 1 1 of Fig. 2, partly broken away; and
Figure 2 is a section taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
It is the object of my invention to provide an improved means for supporting both the operator and the tool operated where scaffolding would otherwise be necessary for their support and it is also an object of my invention to provide a support of such a nat-ure that the positions of the operator and the tool may be readily changed both with respect to the work and to each other.
ln the embodiment of my invention shown in the drawings, 1 designates a suitably braced rectangular frame or member supported at its ends upon wheels 2 adapted to travel upon rails 3 mounted on girders 4 carried by a frame 5. The frame 5 may be the metal frame of a building or, as where applied to the building of cars, the iframe 5 may be a separate frame spanning one or more tracks, and providing an opening in which the cars, indicated by the dot and dash outline, may be placed to be operated on by the tool carried by the frame.
A motor 6, mounted on the frame 1, serves, through a connection not shown, to operate the wheels 2 to move the frame 1 back and forth.
Secured to the frame 1 near its ends are the vertically arranged channel members 7, the pairs of channels at each end of the frame 1 being connected by channels'8 at the lower ends and by suitable bracing. The

members 7 serve as guides for a. rectangular frame or member 9supported 'on cables 10 that pass over pulleys 11, carried by the members 7, and are secured to a winding drum (not shown) operated by the motor 12 mounted upon thetrame 1. Operation of the motor 12 will, therefore, operate the winding drum and raise or lower the frame I9. Extending lengthwise of the frame 9 are the parallel I-beam members 13, 14 and l5. i
'Supported on the frames 16.v which.' arc attached to carriages 17 traveling on the l- beams 13 and 15, is the operators kplatform 18. A carriage 19 traveling on the I-beam 14 has swiveled thereto the rod 20 upon which is mounted the vertically adjustable frame 21 in which the toolmotor 22 is pivotally supported.
The motors 6, 12'and 22 for yoperating' the frames 1 and 9 and the tool 23 may be of any desired type but are shown as electric motors in the drawings. The current ,for the motors is supplied by means of conductors 24 and 25 carried upon insulating supports 26 secured to the girder 4. Brushes 27, which engage the conductors 24 and 25, are connected to the conductors 28 and 29 which lead to the controlling means for the various motors, the controlling means for motor 6 being indicated diagrammatically by rthe switch 30 and the conductors 31 and 32;
the controlling means for the motor 12 by switch 33 and the conductors 34 and 35; and the controlling means for motor 22 by switch 36 and the conductors 37 and 38. The switches 30, 33y and 36 are mounted on the frame work supporting the operators plat` form 18 convenient to the operator and the circuits are arranged to permit of the movevment of the supporting frames 1 and 9, the tool carriage 19 and the operators platform 18 without interrupting the circuits.
l/Vhat I claim` is:
1.-. An adjustable tool support comprising a stationaryy frame, `a horizontally movable member supported thereon, a vertically movable member carried by said horizontally movable member and comprising horizontal tracks and a tool carrying frame and an operators platform suspended from said tracks for movement independently of each other horizontally toward and from and past each other.
2. An adjustable tool support comprising 'loA said frame and comprising horizontal tracks, a tool carrying frame adjustably suspended from one of said tracks and an operators platform suspended from others 1of lsaidV tracks for independent horizontal movement toward and from and past each other;
3. A n adjustable tool support comprising a stationary fra-nie, a horizontally movable member supported thereon, a vertically movable member supported from said horizontally movable member and comprising horizontal tracks, a tool supporting 'carriage carried by one ofl said tracks, a toolsupporting frame adjustably mounted von said carriage, a tool operating' motor pivot-ally mounted in said tool sugl'aorting frame, and an operators platform suspended from others of said tracks for moi/ement independently .of said tool supporting carriage toward and from and past said carriage.
4'. An adjustable tool support Vcomprising a movably supported member, a second member movably supported on said first member,
a tool carrying frame and an operators platform supported on said second member for movement independently of each other7 operating means 'for said members and tool and controlling means forV said operating means movable with said operators platform.
5. An adjustable tool support comprising Va stationary frame, a horizontally movable member carried thereon, a vertically movable member carriedby said horizontally movable member, a tool Vcarrying frame and an operators platform mounted en said Vertically movable member for independent movements thereon, operating means for said Vmovable members and controlling means for said 'operating means movable with said operators platform.
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set 'my 'hand in the presence of two Witnesses.
